What is Givebutter?
Givebutter is a fundraising platform and donor CRM for nonprofits. It offers donation forms, fundraising pages, events, auctions, email, a mobile app and built-in AI features (Givebutter Magic), and runs as a web app with a mobile app.
Who it's for
The vendor aims it at nonprofits and fundraisers who want donation pages, a donor database and outreach tools in one account. Some features, such as texting, ACH pricing and automated deposits, are limited to verified nonprofits.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The pricing page lists a free plan with unlimited users, contacts, email blasts and fundraising campaigns, plus donation forms, fundraising pages, events, auctions, a donor CRM, a mobile app and 24/7 support.
- With optional donor tips enabled (the default), Givebutter says it charges 0% platform and 0% processing fees, and its Givebutter Guarantee covers any uncovered processing fees.
- Givebutter says payouts have no limits or fees, and direct deposit to a bank account or debit card takes 2-3 business days.
- Givebutter Magic AI drafts campaigns from a website, suggests donation amounts and goals, summarizes contacts and offers plain-language contact filters. The vendor says most Magic features come with a free account with no separate AI fees or credits, and users review output before it is sent or published.
- Magic includes optional AI connectors to ChatGPT and Claude, per the vendor's Magic page.
- Optional Givebutter Plus adds workflows, tasks, reports, fundraising blocks in emails, texting, video messages, discounted direct mail ($0.95 per piece per the help center), QuickBooks Online sync and phone support seven days a week, with a 30-day trial that needs no card.
Limitations
- If tips are disabled, the vendor lists a 3% platform fee on every donation plus processing fees of 2.9% + $0.30 for cards and digital wallets, or 1.9% + $0.30 for ACH (verified nonprofits only).
- The Givebutter Guarantee does not apply to DAFpay, card reader or terminal transactions, recurring plans started before Sept. 9, 2025, or campaigns without tips enabled. Fees cannot be hidden from donors while tips are enabled. Accounts created before Sept. 9, 2025 default to Legacy pricing, which the help article does not describe (it notes a 5% fee on manual auction charges versus 3% on Standard). Legacy accounts can switch to Standard in the dashboard.
- Plus is priced by contact count and overage is billed in increments of 100 contacts (the help center gives $10 per 100 extra contacts for the smallest tier). The pricing page shows six contact tiers but only three prices, and the larger tiers need sales.
- Plus cancellation is not immediate. On cancellation, workflows pause, phone support ends and the SMS number is released, and data is kept for 180 days per the help center. A past-due subscription not paid within 14 days is canceled and cannot be reactivated. The help article does not describe refunds.
- The privacy policy says commercial AI features use Anthropic, Google and OpenAI and may send names, emails and giving history, and that for some AI infrastructure, internal tools and fraud review 'in some cases, your data may be used for AI model training'. It also says identifiers may be shared with advertising partners, which may count as a sale or sharing under the CCPA.
Plans and pricing
- Free (Standard pricing): $0. Unlimited users, contacts, email blasts and campaigns, CRM, forms, events, auctions, mobile app and support. Transaction fees: 0% with tips enabled; with tips disabled, 3% platform fee plus 2.9% + $0.30 on cards or 1.9% + $0.30 on ACH.
- Givebutter Plus (smallest tier, 250 contacts or fewer): $29 a month billed annually ($348 a year), or $33.80 monthly. Optional add-on to the free account. Adds workflows, tasks, reports, email fundraising blocks, texting (verified nonprofits), video messages, discounted direct mail, QuickBooks Online sync, advanced AI reporting and phone support. 30-day trial, no card required.
- Givebutter Plus (mid tiers): $79 and $129 a month billed annually ($948 and $1,548 a year), or $92.90 and $150.50 monthly. Contact-based tiers listed up to 10,000 contacts. The pages do not clearly map each price to a contact range.
- Givebutter Plus (50,000+ contacts): Contact sales. The pricing page says the largest tiers require talking to sales.
Prices were read from Givebutter's pricing page, its Plus page and its help center, in US dollars. The annual and monthly Plus figures were matched using the help center, which gives $29 annual and $33.80 monthly for the smallest tier; the mapping of the other prices to contact ranges is unclear, so confirm on the live pricing page. No nonprofit-specific discount is listed because the core product is free to all, but texting, ACH pricing and automated deposits require a verified nonprofit.
