What is Donorbox?
Donorbox is an online fundraising platform that lets nonprofits collect donations through embeddable donation forms, hosted donation pages, recurring giving, crowdfunding pages, peer-to-peer campaigns, event ticketing and memberships. It runs as a web dashboard with embeds for sites such as WordPress, Squarespace and Wix, a donor portal, a Live Kiosk app and a donor CRM.
Who it's for
The vendor aims it at nonprofits and fundraising teams, with plans scaled by team size (5, 10 or 30 team members). Its terms are titled for nonprofits, but they do not require nonprofit status and the vendor says it does not verify it.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Donorbox lists unlimited donation forms, donation pages, event ticketing, crowdfunding pages, peer-to-peer campaigns, memberships and QuickDonate on all plans, including the free Standard plan.
- The Standard plan has no setup, monthly or cancellation fee; the vendor says you pay only when a donation is received (a platform fee plus the payment processor fee).
- The vendor lists Pro-plan features including advanced form customization, tracking and analytics, receipt rebranding, Zapier and API access, recurring donation upsell, DAFpay, crypto and stock donations (3.95% total fee), an AI assistant and Jay-AI.
- Premium adds 24/7 priority support, a customer success manager, guided onboarding, a fundraising coach, custom domains, premium integrations and Text-to-Give, and covers migration of recurring donors at no charge.
- The vendor says its 2024 update expanded the Salesforce integration to Nonprofit Cloud and Nonprofit Success Pack, and its footer lists WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, Webflow, Joomla and Zapier/API documentation.
- The security page says Donorbox has SOC 2 Type I and Type II, PCI DSS Level 1 compliance and PSD2 Strong Customer Authentication, and that card data is tokenized and not stored on its servers.
Limitations
- Per-donation platform fees apply on top of processor fees: 2.95% (Standard), 1.75% (Pro) or 1.6% (Premium) on forms and pages, and 3.95%, 2% and 2% respectively on event ticketing, memberships and peer-to-peer supporter donations. Stripe and PayPal fees are charged separately (the US page lists Stripe cards at 2.2% + 30 cents for registered US nonprofits).
- Some features are metered or sold separately: Zapier and API access is $17 a month on Standard, Text-to-Give is $19 a month (standard number) or $50 a month (custom keyword) unless on Premium, recurring donor migration is a $195 flat fee on Standard and Pro, and the Live Kiosk is $80 a month or $820 a year for the first device.
- Premium pricing is not published (contact sales), and the page says Pro has a yearly billing discount but does not state the amount.
- The vendor's pricing page shows two Stripe rates for kiosk (2.7% + $0.05) and standard donations (2.2% + 30 cents), and the UK pricing page lists UK processing rates and features such as Gift Aid that differ from the US page. Confirm the rate that applies to your country.
- Per the terms, fees paid to Donorbox are generally non-refundable, processor fees usually are not returned when a donation is refunded, and the customer handles donor refunds and chargebacks. After termination you have 30 days to export data.

- Standard: Free. No monthly fee; 5 team members; 2.95% platform fee on forms, pages, QuickDonate, crowdfunding and organizer peer-to-peer, 3.95% on event ticketing, memberships and peer-to-peer supporters, plus processor fees.
- Pro: $150 a month (yearly billing discount available, amount not stated). 10 team members; 1.75% platform fee (2% on ticketing, memberships, peer-to-peer supporters); adds advanced customization, analytics, receipt rebranding, Zapier and API, crypto and stock donations, AI assistant, Jay-AI and DAFpay.
- Premium: Contact sales. 30 team members; 1.6% platform fee (2% on ticketing, memberships, peer-to-peer supporters); adds 24/7 priority support, customer success manager, custom domains, premium integrations, guided onboarding, fundraising coach and Text-to-Give.
Prices were read from the vendor's US pricing page (donorbox.org/pricing) and the UK pricing page, both in US dollars for plan fees; processor rates differ by country and were not converted. Nonprofit processing discounts come from Stripe and PayPal for registered nonprofits, not from a Donorbox nonprofit tier. The vendor says it does not use donor data to train public AI models: its privacy policy names Donorbox as processor of donor data (the nonprofit is the controller), says it does not sell personal information, and says third-party providers are barred from using message contents or donor data to train public, generalized or cross-tenant AI models; the security page and terms say nothing about AI data use.
