What is Recall?
Recall is an AI knowledge base that saves articles, YouTube videos, podcasts, PDFs, web pages and notes, adds an AI summary and tags to each save, and lets you chat with your library. It runs as a web app, browser extensions (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) and iOS and Android apps, with an API and MCP server.
Who it's for
Recall's pricing page presents Plus for a daily personal knowledge base and Max for researchers, analysts and high-volume users who want bulk actions and model choice. Accounts are for one person, so it is not set up for shared or team use.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Recall lists unlimited saves for read-later content and unlimited notes on the Free plan, along with API and MCP access.
- Recall says Plus adds unlimited AI summaries, AI chat over your saved knowledge, the web or both, smart tags, quizzes with spaced repetition, and Listen Mode text-to-speech.
- Recall says its API and MCP server give read-only access so tools such as ChatGPT can search your library, and that you can export your library as Markdown.
- Recall's privacy policy says it does not use your data to train AI models or for advertising or profiling, and that you can access, export or delete your data at any time.
- Recall lists bulk import of up to 1,000 bookmarks or 10,000 Markdown notes on Plus, and says Recall 2.0 (April 2026) added X and Reddit imports.
- Recall offers a full refund within the first 30 days, a 20% student discount by email, and cancellation at any time with access kept to the end of the billing period.
Limitations
- Free includes 10 AI summaries a month; the pricing page lists chat, smart tags, quizzes and Listen Mode under Plus. One Recall page (chatgpt-alternative) says Free has limited chat messages, which the pricing page does not list.
- Plus and Max summaries are unlimited only for typical use under a Fair Use Policy that gives no numeric threshold and lets Recall contact heavy users, move them to another plan or pause the subscription.
- Choosing the AI model, bulk AI actions on up to 100 items and 1:1 onboarding are Max features at $38 a month billed annually; on Plus, Recall picks the model automatically.
- The pricing page shows only yearly-billed prices; the monthly-billed prices for Plus and Max are not shown.
- Accounts are for individual use only and reselling or sharing accounts is prohibited. The privacy policy does not say where data is stored, and says content sent to an AI assistant such as ChatGPT through MCP is governed by that provider's policy.
Plans and pricing
- Free: $0. No credit card; 10 AI summaries a month, unlimited saves and notes, knowledge graph linking of notes, API and MCP access.
- Plus: $10 a month billed annually. Unlimited AI summaries (fair use), AI chat, smart tags, quizzes, Listen Mode, automatic knowledge graph, bulk import up to 1,000 bookmarks or 10,000 Markdown notes.
- Max: $38 a month billed annually. Everything in Plus, plus choice of AI model, bulk AI actions on up to 100 items at once and 1:1 onboarding.
Prices were read from the official pricing page, which shows a Monthly/Yearly toggle with a 'Save 20%' label but states only the yearly-billed amounts in USD; monthly-billed prices could not be read. Recall's April 2026 release notes say Plus had a slight price increase and existing subscribers keep their price for a year. Confirm on the live pricing page.
