What is Otio?
Otio is an AI research workspace where you upload sources such as PDFs, web pages, YouTube videos, podcasts and spreadsheets, then chat with them, summarize them, take notes and run Deep Research, with answers cited to the page or passage. It runs as a web app, a Chrome extension and mobile apps (the homepage lists iOS and Android; the pricing page mentions desktop and iPhone apps).
Who it's for
Otio lists researchers, consultants, lawyers, analysts, journalists, policy professionals, students and writers as its audience. It says answers come only from the material you upload, and it does not name specific AI models.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Otio's pricing page says all plans include all AI models, an auto model router, a two-model comparison, Deep Research, page and timestamp citations, markdown export and Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive connections.
- The homepage lists PDFs, web pages, YouTube videos, podcasts, books, textbooks, transcripts and spreadsheets or CSVs as sources, plus Spaces (separate project workspaces), notes and slide building.
- Lite and above add, per the pricing page, multi-step research workflows, reader view, delivery by email, Drive or Telegram, Zotero and Mendeley, and audio listening and recording. The homepage also lists Box.
- Its privacy policy says it does not use your Inputs or Outputs to train its AI tools unless you opt in or a separate written agreement applies, and that third-party AI providers may not train on your data.
- The privacy policy says personal data is hosted within the EEA and lists encryption in transit, access controls and monitoring, and that you can delete your account from settings, the mobile app or by emailing support.
- The pricing page says you can cancel from Settings, Billing.
Limitations
- The Free plan lists 10 files, 25MB per file, 50MB total storage, 1 space and 2 parallel chats, with 'limited' monthly AI usage and no number given. The comparison table also shows 10 uploads a day for Free.
- Paid plans cap uploads per day (Lite 50, Go 250, Pro 500), PDF length (500, 1,000 and 2,000 pages) and storage (250MB, 500MB, 1GB). Go and Pro are listed as 3x and 10x the monthly AI usage; no absolute numbers are given and the Lite row is unclear.
- Otio's own pages disagree: the homepage and pricing headline say 'no limits' while the pricing page lists caps; the plan cards show a 'Save 50%' label although annual prices equal 12 times monthly; the Free plan's annual cell shows '£540/yr'; and Pro parallel chats read '10+' with no number on its card.
- The terms say payments are processed in GBP, fees are generally non-refundable and non-cancellable, subscriptions renew automatically, and cancelling does not refund the current period, while the pricing page shows USD.
- The terms say materials on free, legacy or inactive accounts, or after a paid plan ends, may be deleted or archived after reasonable notice; the privacy policy says some data may be kept up to six years. Resale of access is not allowed outside Team, Business or Enterprise plans, and use is licensed for personal or internal business purposes.
Plans and pricing
- Free: $0. 10 files, 25MB per file, 50MB storage, 1 space, 2 parallel chats, limited monthly AI usage. Lacks multi-step research workflows and the Lite-and-above features.
- Lite: $84 a year ($7 a month equivalent), or $7 monthly. 50 uploads a day, 500-page PDFs, 250MB storage, 2 spaces, 5 parallel chats; adds research workflows, reader view, Zotero and Mendeley, audio.
- Go: $216 a year ($18 a month equivalent), or $18 monthly. 250 uploads a day, 1,000-page PDFs, 500MB storage, 5 spaces, 10 parallel chats, 3x monthly AI usage as listed.
- Pro: $540 a year ($45 a month equivalent), or $45 monthly. 500 uploads a day, 2,000-page PDFs, 1GB storage, 5 spaces, '10+' parallel chats, 10x monthly AI usage as listed.
Prices were read from otio.ai/pricing (page dated July 7, 2026) and are in USD; annual prices equal 12 times the monthly price, so no annual discount shows despite the 'Save 50%' label. A Business tab shows no plan details or prices, the FAQ answers were not visible, and a promo banner (50% off for 3 months, code GO50V2) had no terms. The terms say billing is in GBP.
