What is n8n?
A workflow automation platform where you build workflows by connecting nodes, including AI agent and MCP nodes. It can be self-hosted (Community Edition) or used as a hosted cloud service.
Who it's for
Teams and individuals who want to automate tasks across apps and build AI-agent workflows, and who either want a hosted service or can run their own instance. Higher tiers add admin roles, SSO and Git version control for larger organisations.

Strengths
- Cloud billing counts whole workflow executions; n8n says the number of steps in a run does not change the count
- All plans list unlimited users and workflows, and every integration
- Cloud plans include agents, MCP and AI nodes
- A standard self-hosted version is available on GitHub, with documentation at docs.n8n.io
- A free cloud trial is offered (the pricing page says no credit card is needed)
Limitations
- Starter cloud is capped at 2.5K executions a month, 5 concurrent executions and 5 minutes per execution
- Pro cloud is capped at 10K executions a month; admin roles start at Pro
- Business is listed as self-hosted only (a hosted version is on a waitlist), with overage priced at €4,000 per extra 300,000 executions
- The Sustainable Use License limits use to internal business or non-commercial purposes; it is not an OSI-approved open-source licence
- SSO/LDAP, multiple environments, queue mode and Git version control are listed under Business

- Free cloud trial: €0. 1,000 executions, 5 concurrent executions, 180-second timeout. There is no permanent free cloud plan.
- Community Edition (self-hosted): No price listed. You run and maintain it yourself under the Sustainable Use License.
- Starter: €20/month billed annually. 2.5K executions a month, 5 concurrent, 1 shared project.
- Pro: €50/month billed annually. 10K executions a month, up to 50 concurrent, 3 shared projects, admin roles.
- Business: €667/month billed annually. 40K executions a month, SSO/LDAP, Git version control, self-hosted only.
- Enterprise: Contact sales. Custom executions, SLA support, log streaming.
