What is Deepgram?
Deepgram is a developer platform that sells speech-to-text, text-to-speech and a Voice Agent API (speech-to-text, an LLM and text-to-speech in one real-time connection). It is used through REST and WebSocket APIs and SDKs, and can also run on regional endpoints, in a customer's own infrastructure, or self-hosted.
Who it's for
Deepgram positions Pay As You Go for developers and startups, Growth for growing applications, and Enterprise for large volumes or data, deployment or support requirements. It is an API product, so it suits teams building transcription or voice features into their own software rather than people who want a ready-made consumer app.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The pricing page gives Pay As You Go a free $200 credit with no credit card required, no minimums and no expiration.
- The language docs list Nova-3 monolingual with 63 named entries, Nova-3 multilingual with 55 languages, and Flux with English (1 language) or a multilingual model (10 languages).
- The Voice Agent API combines speech-to-text, LLM orchestration and text-to-speech in one API, and Deepgram says you can bring your own LLM or TTS provider.
- Deepgram lists streaming and pre-recorded speech-to-text, text-to-speech (Flux TTS, Aura-2, Aura-1) and audio intelligence such as summarization, each with a published per-unit price.
- Deepgram's data page lists regional endpoints for the EU, Australia and India, plus self-hosted and Dedicated options, and says it holds SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 attestations.
- Deepgram's blog says default concurrency was tripled; the pricing page lists 150 streaming speech-to-text streams and 45 voice agent connections on Pay As You Go, and 225 and 60 on Growth.
Limitations
- Deepgram's data page says the Model Improvement Program is on by default and request audio and transcripts are retained to improve models; you must pass mip_opt_out=true on each request to opt out.
- The Terms of Service grant Deepgram a perpetual license to use customer content to improve and train its models, with opt-out applying only to content submitted afterward. Protected health information may be sent only with a signed business associate agreement.
- Payments are generally non-refundable and unused credits are not refunded or rolled over except where the pricing list or law says otherwise; subscriptions auto-renew, and Pay As You Go users must enroll in auto-load or buy more credits after the free credit is used.
- Growth is a prepaid annual commitment starting at $4K+ a year (savings of up to 20%); Enterprise has no public price. Support on Pay As You Go and Growth is listed as Community and Discord, with standard uptime and no stated SLA.
- Several streaming speech-to-text rates are shown as limited-time promotional rates (for example Nova-3 monolingual at $0.0048 a minute against a regular $0.0077), so prices may rise. The speaker diarization row for streaming Growth is blank on the pricing page, and the page mentions a 10% overage fee on Growth without details.

Prices were read from deepgram.com/pricing in USD, with per-minute, per-1,000-character and per-token rates. Per-hour figures, FAQ answers and the refund, auto-load and credit-transfer details were not readable on that page, so refund terms come from the Terms of Service. Confirm on the live pricing page, since several rates are labeled promotional.
