What is CrewAI?
CrewAI is an open-source Python framework for building multi-agent AI systems, with Crews for role-based agent collaboration and Flows for event-driven workflow control. CrewAI Inc. also sells a hosted platform, CrewAI AMP, that adds deployment, monitoring and a visual editor called Studio around the same framework.
Who it's for
The vendor positions the open-source framework for developers building multi-agent workflows in Python. It positions AMP for teams that want managed deployment, tracing and governance, and its Enterprise tier for organisations that need SSO, role-based access control and a choice of cloud or their own infrastructure.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The open-source framework is MIT licensed, according to its GitHub repository
- A free tier with 50 workflow executions a month and 2 automations, including Studio, tracing, OpenTelemetry, guardrails, human-in-the-loop input, GitHub integration and cron scheduling
- Enterprise can be deployed on CrewAI cloud, in the customer's own VPC or on the customer's infrastructure, per the pricing page
- Studio lets you describe a problem, review the generated crew configuration, then deploy it to AMP or download the code
- Deployed crews get a REST API, webhook streaming and execution tracing, and can be deployed from GitHub, Studio or the CrewAI CLI
Limitations
- The free tier is capped at 50 workflow executions and 2 automations a month, deploys on CrewAI cloud only, and the pricing page shows no overage price for it
- SSO, role-based access control, enterprise connectors, dedicated support, onboarding and VPC or own-infrastructure deployment are listed as Enterprise only
- The pricing page shows no public paid tier with a listed price. There is Free and Custom, and Enterprise overage is described as flexible with no rate stated
- Code downloaded from Studio cannot be imported back. The docs say customised code becomes a separate automation without the visual editor, versioning or validation
- Using the open-source framework means writing Python code, and your own model provider and infrastructure costs are separate
Plans and pricing
- Free (labelled Basic): $0. 50 workflow executions a month, 2 automations, CrewAI cloud deployment only, community support. Includes Studio, tracing and guardrails.
- Enterprise: Custom. Everything in Free plus SSO, role-based access control, PII redaction, policies and enterprise connectors. Overage is flexible with no rate stated. Cloud, VPC or customer infrastructure. Lists a 45-day onboarding and dedicated support.
- Open-source framework: Free (MIT licence). A self-hosted Python library, not a hosted plan. Model provider and infrastructure costs are separate.
Plans are from the vendor's pricing page, read on 18 October 2026, which shows only Free and Custom. Third-party sites mention older paid tiers (a $25 Professional plan, $29 and $99 ladders) that we could not find on the vendor's page, so we left them out. Seat limits and the overage rate are not published.
