What is Captions?

An AI video app for short-form content that adds captions, edits video, dubs speech and generates AI actors, voices and clips from prompts or scripts. The vendor lists iPhone, Android and web/desktop surfaces; it is made by Mirage, the company name since Captions, LLC renamed itself in September 2025.

Who it's for

Creators and businesses making short vertical videos for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn and Facebook, per the vendor's rename announcement. The vendor's help pages also list an Enterprise route for teams that need custom seats and commercial terms.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • The subscriptions page lists a Free plan with no watermark that includes the Eclipse template and basic editing tools (captions, camera, trim, zoom, sounds, media, voiceover, transitions, resize) plus project creation and exports.
  • The subscriptions page says Basic adds Reddit to Video, Script Generator, Camera and Teleprompter, Caption and Dub, and AI editing tools such as Eye Contact, Denoise and Censor.
  • The subscriptions page says Max adds Chat to Edit, AI Edit, Clips, Mirage-generated actors, up to 30 AI Twins, up to 2 concurrent video generations and model selection for AI media, sound effects and music.
  • The subscriptions page lists third-party model access by plan, including voices (Google Chirp 3, ElevenLabs, Cartesia, OpenAI) on Basic and image and video models (for example Veo 3, Kling, Flux) on Max and Frontier.
  • The help pages say paid plans can be canceled at any time and access continues to the end of the billing period; cancellation is done through Apple, Google or the Stripe web portal depending on where you subscribed.
  • The vendor also sells a pay-as-you-go API, listed at $0.15 per minute for video captions and $0.15 per second for avatar video generation.

Limitations

  • Generative features run on monthly credits: the subscriptions page lists 60-200 lifetime credits on Free, 200 a month on Basic, 500 on Max and 1,400 on Frontier, and says Free and Lite include no generative AI models. The pages read do not say whether unused credits roll over.
  • The Lite plan ($4.99 a month) is Android-only and does not unlock iPhone or desktop; those need Basic, Max or Frontier. Free users are limited to one template and Mirage videos up to 15 seconds, per the vendor's Mirage help page.
  • Refund terms differ by channel: the billing page says monthly plans are non-refundable, while the subscriptions help says App Store and Google Play refunds go through Apple or Google and website refunds go through Captions support.
  • The vendor's pages disagree on plan details: the subscriptions page lists Basic at $9.99 and Lite at $4.99, but the billing page lists only Max, Frontier and its 2x and 4x tiers, with seat counts of 2 to 5. An independent comparison reports that App Store prices may differ from web and Android prices.
  • Mirage Studio is listed on the Mirage help page as requiring the Business plan ($399 a month, 8,000 credits), but the subscriptions and billing pages say Teams and Business plans are no longer available to new customers. Extra credits beyond the plan need Frontier boosts ($139.99 or $279.99) or Enterprise.

Plans and pricing

  • Free: $0. 60-200 lifetime credits, one template (Eclipse), basic editing and exports, no watermark, no generative AI models.
  • Lite: $4.99 a month. Android only; manual editing tools, dubbing, caption styles, AI Eye Contact and Denoise. Does not unlock iPhone or desktop.
  • Basic: $9.99 a month (Reported). 200 credits a month; formerly called Pro. Adds Caption and Dub, Script Generator, teleprompter and AI editing tools; no watermark.
  • Max: $24.99 a month. 500 credits a month, 2 seats per the billing page. Adds Chat to Edit, AI Edit, Clips, AI actors, up to 30 AI Twins and image/video model choice.
  • Frontier: $69.99 a month. 1,400 credits a month, 3 seats; formerly Scale. 2x ($139.99, 2,800 credits, 4 seats) and 4x ($279.99, 5,600 credits, 5 seats) tiers are also listed.
  • Enterprise: Custom pricing. Contact sales for commercial terms, onboarding, discounted seats and support.

Prices were read from the vendor's subscriptions and billing help pages, because the main pricing page could not be fetched; the Basic price is also reported by an independent comparison (iOS prices, September 2026). The help pages say annual plans exist and are discounted but do not list yearly prices, so all prices are monthly in USD and checkout may show local currency. Confirm on the live pricing page. The pages read do not say whether customer content is used to train models; the web user terms say the customer controls its input and output and refer to a Privacy Policy that was not read.

Details checked October 2026 against the vendor's own pages. Prices and limits change, so confirm before you buy. Official pricing page ↗
