What is Bolt.new?
Bolt (bolt.new, by StackBlitz) is a browser-based AI builder for websites, web apps and mobile apps. It runs in the browser using WebContainers and can publish projects to a bolt.host address.
Who it's for
People who want to build and publish websites, web apps or prototypes from text prompts without installing anything. Teams and organizations are covered by separate Teams and Enterprise plans.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- It runs in the browser with nothing to install, using WebContainers
- The Free plan includes publishing to a bolt.host address, public and private projects, and an unlimited number of databases
- Publishing does not use tokens
- The GitHub integration commits after each change that does not break the project, and a project can be downloaded as a ZIP
- Mobile apps can be built through the Expo integration, and Version History restores the version saved after each prompt
Limitations
- The Free plan has 300K tokens a day and 1M a month, and the daily allowance does not carry over. At the daily cap you can still edit code in Code view without using tokens
- Free sites show a Made in Bolt badge, have no custom domains, and get 10 GB of bandwidth and 333,333 requests a month. Sites go offline at the limit until the next cycle
- Using Supabase databases requires a Pro or Teams plan
- Token reload (top-up) is available only on the highest individual monthly Pro plan or on any annual Pro plan
- Subscriptions are non-refundable under the Terms of Service, and the vendor says it has no public API, CLI or SDK
Plans and pricing
- Free: $0. 300K tokens a day and 1M a month, Bolt badge on sites, 10MB upload limit, no custom domains.
- Pro: $25 a month billed monthly (10M tokens a month tier); higher tiers exist. No daily limit. Custom domains, no badge, 100MB upload limit, 30 GB bandwidth and 1M requests a month of hosting. The billing page gives $50 and $100 a month as example higher tiers, and yearly billing is cheaper.
- Teams: $30 per member a month, billed monthly. Everything in Pro plus central billing, access management, admin controls and organization sharing. Tokens are per member and not shared.
- Enterprise: Custom, contact sales. Adds SSO, audit logs, compliance support, a dedicated account manager and custom SLAs.
