Where the computers behind AI are being built. This is a sourced list of 125 AI-focused data center sites in 27 countries: who builds them, which AI companies use them, how much power they plan, and whether they are running, under construction or still planned. It is not every data center on Earth, only large AI sites we could confirm from public sources.

A 50/50 Nscale-Aker joint venture campus at Kvandal near Narvik, announced in July 2025 as Stargate Norway with OpenAI. In April 2026 Microsoft was reported to have agreed a lease for 30,000 Nvidia Vera Rubin GPUs at the site.
Notes. Capacity conflict: 230 MW initial (520 MW potential) per the project announcement; OpenAI's own page lists a 500 MW campus. OpenAI-Nscale negotiations reportedly ended without agreement and Microsoft took the capacity. Microsoft was reported in late 2025 to have committed USD 6.2 billion over five years at Narvik. Coordinates are Narvik town centre. Announced 31 Jul 2025 as Stargate Norway with a target of 100,000 Nvidia GPUs by end-2026. Per TIME (Jun 2026), Microsoft is the tenant, Nscale dropped the Stargate branding in April 2026, and OpenAI said it would still rent capacity as a Microsoft customer. Another source lists the status as planned. TechCrunch lists Narvik as a 'Microsoft AI campus' with 52,000 GPUs; Techzine places a site 'near Narvik'. Deal delivery described via Nscale operations and an Aker joint venture. No MW or timeline given for this site. Both sources date from October 2025; no 2026 status update was found, so status is the announced one.

260 MW
Bitcoin-mining buildings at the Denton Energy Center converted to AI hosting for CoreWeave from late 2024. About 130 billable MW were reported in March 2026 and Epoch AI counts Buildings 1-7 operating by July 2026, with an eighth building planned for 2027.
Notes. Figures conflict: ~130 billable MW (Core Scientific Q4 call, Mar 2026), 262 MW operational (Epoch AI, Jul 2026), and 394 MW 'announced' on a tracker listing. Epoch lists OpenAI as likely end user per a WSJ report; not confirmed by the operator. Another source gives 262 MW (Epoch AI estimated current IT power (Jul 2026); about 260 MW contracted to CoreWeave). DCD (Jan 2026) said The Information reported the Denton facility serves OpenAI and that more than 16,000 GPUs were deployed by end-Dec 2025, but the site and its data center partner were not named by The Information and Core Scientific had not confirmed. Epoch lists OpenAI as likely user. The campus was delayed by a third-party developer and weather in late 2025. Capacity and cost are Epoch estimates.

Crusoe campus in Armstrong County near Claude, planned as at least six single-story buildings next to the Serena wind farms. Crusoe broke ground in Jun 2025 and filed for two more buildings in Jul 2026.
Notes. DCD (30 Sep 2026) reports Crusoe confirmed on 28 Sep 2026 it is building the project for Google; TheEnergyMag (31 Jul 2026) noted no tenant was identified in state filings. MW figures are not official Crusoe or Google numbers. Coordinates are for Claude, TX. Another source lists the status as planned. Exact site not published; coordinates are the county seat (Claude). Google also contracted over 6,200 MW of new generation capacity in Texas via PPAs (statewide). Google announced a data center in Armstrong County in November 2025 without naming a site; it is likely, but not confirmed, that this is the same project.

Applied Digital's Ellendale AI campus is leased to CoreWeave for 400 MW of critical IT load. The first 100 MW became operational in October 2025 and Phase 1 of Building 2 (75 MW) was delivered on 2026-06-30, bringing live capacity to 175 MW, with Building 4 under construction.
Notes. Applied Digital also says more than 1 GW is under load study at the campus. An August 2025 report gave the build schedule as 100 MW (Q4 2025), 150 MW (mid-2026), 150 MW (2027); a later company release gives 175 MW live by mid-2026 and an MOU to assign the Building 4 lease to a CoreWeave subsidiary once it has an investment-grade rating. Separate 180 MW crypto-hosting facility also operates in Ellendale (not counted). Epoch lists OpenAI as a speculative end user; no source opened names CoreWeave's end customer here. Epoch projects building 3 by mid-2027.

1,400-acre campus near Santa Teresa planned as four data centers with an on-site power facility, leased by Oracle for 18 years with OpenAI as the primary user. Construction began in Sep 2025.
Notes. Capacity figures conflict: earlier developer statements gave 700-900 MW for phase one; air-permit filings (Nov 2025) showed up to 2.8 GW of gas-turbine capacity; Oracle later switched to Bloom Energy fuel cells (Apr 2026). A related gas pipeline was denied on state land in Mar and Jul 2026, and Oracle issued a force majeure notice in Sep 2026 over potential power delays while saying the project remains on schedule. Epoch estimates full completion Q4 2028; Albuquerque Journal (Sep 2025) reported an end-2026 operating target, which later sources do not support. Coordinates are approximate for Santa Teresa.

Second xAI compute site in the Whitehaven area of Memphis (Tulane Road, about 100 acres including a ~1M sq ft warehouse), with natural gas turbines and batteries supplying power from across the state line in Southaven, Mississippi. Epoch AI estimates about 1.1 million H100-equivalents of B200/B300 chips in service as of June 2026, with more buildings under construction.
Notes. Coordinates are the centre of Memphis, not the site. Sources disagree on when it came online: Epoch estimates first cluster Oct 2025; another outlet reports operation from Jan 2026; a Sep 2026 article gives Sep 3, 2026. SemiAnalysis (Sep 2025) described a ~200 MW cooling build and a >1 GW target. Cleanview counts ~59 temporary turbines (~1.3 GW) in May 2026 imagery plus 41 permitted permanent units (~1.2 GW); MDEQ confirmed 46 temporary turbines during litigation. NAACP/SELC/Earthjustice sued over turbine permits (Apr-May 2026). Users per Epoch AI.

Power, not chips, is now the limit on where many AI sites can be built. These are the sourced facts we are tracking, as of 15 October 2026. Capacity is in megawatts (MW) or gigawatts (GW; 1 GW = 1,000 MW). Words like "agreement" and "up to" mean plans and ceilings, not electricity delivered. See the glossary for GW, PPA and behind-the-meter power.
How much electricity data centers use
Three well-known estimates, three different scopes. They are projections and cannot be added or compared directly.
Global (IEA)
The IEA estimates data centres used about 415 TWh in 2024, around 1.5% of the world's electricity, rising to about 945 TWh by 2030. Its base case for 2035 is about 1,200 TWh, with a range of 700 to 1,700 TWh across scenarios.
EIA's July 2026 outlook projects total US power use of 4,269 billion kWh in 2026 and 4,399 billion kWh in 2027, with AI and crypto data centers named as a major driver. This covers all sectors, not only data centers.
In the US, getting connected and finding spare capacity has become the limit in some regions.
PJM capacity auction
PJM's July 2026 auction for 2028/29 cleared at the price cap of $325 per MW-day and still fell 6,831 MW short of the reliability requirement, with data-center load growth in the forecast.
PJM filed a Reliability Backstop Procurement with FERC on 31 July 2026, offering contracts of up to 15 years at up to $555 per MW-day to close the gap. A market monitor says it shifts costs.
On 18 June 2026 FERC asked PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO-NE and NYISO to show their rules handle large loads (50 MW and up) and co-located power plants, or reform them.
On 3 August 2026 Texas Gov. Abbott directed the PUC and ERCOT to hold further data-center interconnection approvals until an audit of the queue is done. No end date was set.
Some campuses add their own gas generation instead of waiting for the grid.
xAI, Mississippi
Mississippi regulators approved xAI's permit for 41 natural gas turbines (about 1.2 GW) at Southaven, mainly to power Colossus 2 in Memphis and the planned Colossus 3.
Energy-data firm Cleanview, using permit documents and satellite images, estimates about 360 MW of on-site gas generation was complete at the grid-connected Abilene campus by January 2026. This is an outside estimate, not a company statement.
Several AI companies have signed long-term deals. Many of these plants are years from delivering power.
Meta
Meta announced agreements with Vistra, TerraPower and Oklo covering up to 6.6 GW of new and existing nuclear capacity by 2035, with some purchases starting in late 2026.
Google signed a 20-year agreement for 890 MW of added output from upgrades at 11 Constellation nuclear units (first online by 2028, all by end of 2032), plus a separate 15-year deal for 2,700 MW of existing PJM output.
Constellation said in August 2026 that FERC approved an interconnection waiver and the NRC approved a fuel license amendment, moving the Crane restart toward 2027.
Kairos Power broke ground on its Hermes 2 reactor in Oak Ridge on 17 April 2026. Output was raised to 50 MWe under the TVA-Google agreement, with operation targeted by 2030.
NextEra secured about 2.5 GW of renewable contracts with Meta, mostly solar in ERCOT, SPP and MISO plus solar-plus-storage in New Mexico, with projects online between 2026 and 2028.
Some governments are slowing approvals while they study the effects.
New York
Gov. Hochul signed an executive order on 14 July 2026 pausing discretionary permits for data centers of 50 MW or more for up to a year while the state studies energy, water and air impacts.
Read with care. The demand figures above use different scopes and years, so they are not comparable. Some sites, such as xAI and Stargate Abilene, are also listed in the map above with their own sources. Found something out of date? Email 10xaiexponential@gmail.com.

How this list is built
What is included. Large AI-focused data center campuses, plus AI sites run by cloud providers and "neocloud" companies. It does not try to list the many thousands of ordinary data centers, because no free source covers them reliably.
Where the facts come from. Each entry links to the company announcements, government and utility filings and news reports behind it. Where two sources disagree, for example on megawatts or cost, the entry says so instead of picking one quietly. Some figures come from Epoch AI, which estimates capacity from satellite images and public records; these are estimates, not company statements, and are labelled that way.
Capacity. Megawatts (MW) measure electric power, not computing speed. Depending on the site the figure may be power planned, power approved by a utility, or power in use, so the capacity note on each entry matters more than the number alone. We do not add the figures together because they are not like for like.
Status and locations. Status is the stage the latest source describes. Most map pins sit at the centre of the named city or county, not on the building, because few projects publish an exact address. Confidence is "high" when several independent sources agree, "medium" when there are fewer, and "low" when the sources are thin or old.
Corrections. Found something wrong or out of date? Email 10xaiexponential@gmail.com and we'll fix it. Last full check: 2026-10-14. Map shapes are Natural Earth data via the world-atlas package (public domain).
