What is Zeni?
Zeni is an AI bookkeeping service for U.S. companies that pairs an AI accountant with a dedicated human finance team. It runs on a web dashboard at app.zeni.ai, works on QuickBooks Online, and also offers bill pay, reimbursements, business checking, taxes, payroll management and fractional CFO services.
Who it's for
Zeni lists Starter bookkeeping for pre-revenue companies, Growth for companies with revenue, and Enterprise for complex companies. Its pages say services are for U.S.-based entities (C-Corp, S-Corp or LLC) and name founders, small business owners, CFOs, accountants and bookkeepers as users.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Zeni says every bookkeeping plan includes AI Bookkeeping, AI Bill Pay, AI Reimbursements, AI Business Checking and a dedicated team of a Controller, a Bookkeeping Manager and a Bookkeeping Analyst.
- Zeni lists AI features for categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, matching receipts, vendor verification, class tracking, month-end close and audit checks, with a dashboard showing P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement.
- Zeni lists $0 ACH fees on Bill Pay with no cost beyond the subscription, no limit on reports in Reimbursements, and support for 160 currencies in Reimbursements.
- Zeni says onboarding takes about 30 minutes on a video call and that the dashboard is typically active within one week; a Finance Concierge is listed Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm PST.
- Zeni says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant, with the report available on request, and that customer data is encrypted at rest and in transit and kept in separate partitions per customer.
- Zeni lists a Zeni MCP that connects your books to AI tools such as Claude and Codex, and says it bills bookkeeping monthly without hourly charges.
Limitations
- No free plan or trial is listed; pricing and onboarding go through a demo request, and Zeni says bookkeeping prices depend on complexity, monthly expenses and annual revenue without listing thresholds.
- Zeni says services are for U.S.-based entities only, each entity or location needs its own subscription, and its dashboard requires QuickBooks Online Plus. Its pricing page also lists QBO Pro in a table, so the pages disagree; companies not on QBO Plus are migrated at signup.
- Zeni's terms say subscriptions auto-renew for the same term, notice to stop renewal is due 30 days before an annual term ends (7 days for monthly or quarterly), early termination needs Zeni's written consent, and payments are generally non-refundable. Zeni may change renewal pricing with 45 days' notice.
- Zeni's pricing page says it is not currently GDPR compliant and is working toward it. Its terms give Zeni a license to use Customer Data to provide and improve the services; its privacy policy (updated February 20, 2025) says nothing about AI model training.
- Fractional CFO, tax and payroll services are priced separately, and CFO and Payroll Manager require annual contracts. Zeni's two pricing pages disagree on CFO tier names and prices (CFO Lite $1,599 vs CFO Starter $1,500; Premium $2,990 vs Growth $2,900) and on some add-on prices (Delaware franchise tax $300 vs $250).

Listed as an annual contract on one page.
- Taxes: Starter $2,499 a year; Growth $3,899 a year; Enterprise custom. Starter is for pre-revenue companies, Growth for revenue up to $500K, Enterprise for revenue over $500K. Includes Tax Concierge, federal and state corporate income tax filing; add-ons are priced separately.
- Payroll Manager: From $199 a month on an annual contract. Covers employee onboarding and termination, payroll system management and ongoing support for U.S.-based employees and contractors; add-ons such as state registration are priced separately and differ between pages.
Prices were read from Zeni's pricing page, its bookkeeping packages page and its CFO services pricing page this session; bookkeeping prices match across them in U.S. dollars. The pages conflict on CFO tiers, some tax and payroll add-ons and the QuickBooks tier, so confirm on the live pricing page. The terms page did not state a plan-level refund policy beyond the non-refundable terms above.
