What is Sigma?
Sigma is a business analytics and AI platform that lets teams build dashboards, apps and agents on live data in a cloud data warehouse, using a spreadsheet-style interface, SQL or Python. It runs as a web service connected to warehouses such as Snowflake, Databricks and ClickHouse.
Who it's for
Sigma describes its license tiers as covering report viewers, data contributors, analysts and builders (data architects, BI analysts and report builders), so it suits teams that keep data in a cloud warehouse and want business users to explore it without SQL. It is not sold as a self-serve app with public prices; plans are arranged with Sigma.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Sigma says queries run with each viewer's warehouse permissions, including row-level and column-level security, and that its AI processing runs on the customer's cloud data warehouse compute.
- Sigma lists Sigma Assistant (natural-language questions over governed data), AI Query (LLM calls from spreadsheet columns) and Sigma Agents (scheduled or interactive agents that can write results back to the warehouse).
- Sigma says Input Tables and forms save edits back to the warehouse; its planning page describes approver routing, row locking and versioned write-back.
- Sigma lists SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type II, SOC 3, HIPAA, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018 and ISO 27701 assessments in its security policy; its homepage also lists GDPR and SSO/SCIM support.
- Sigma's security policy says customer data is encrypted at rest (AES 256-bit or stronger) and in transit (TLS 1.2 or stronger), and that customers with local requirements can process data in Canada, Europe, Australia/APAC or the UK.
- Sigma says it can act as both an MCP client and server, and its homepage mentions MCP-based connections from Claude, Codex and ChatGPT.
Limitations
- Sigma does not publish prices; its help docs say to contact an Account Executive or Customer Success Manager for license pricing, so costs cannot be compared from public pages.
- Sigma's help docs list four license tiers (View, Act, Analyze, Build), each adding capabilities; ad hoc analysis, the AI formula assistant, and workbook creation are reserved for the Analyze and Build tiers.
- AI features require an AI provider to be configured for the organization (a warehouse-hosted model or an external model such as OpenAI or Azure OpenAI); with an external model, data is handled under that provider's terms.
- The Main Service Agreement says fees are based on subscriptions purchased, are non-cancelable and, except in listed cases, non-refundable; refunds apply only in situations such as an uncured breach by Sigma.
- The free trial page does not state a trial length or usage limits, and Sigma's security policy says PCI-DSS and FedRAMP are not covered by third-party verified certifications, while Sigma's homepage lists PCI DSS (the two pages differ).
Plans and pricing
- Free trial: $0. Trial account to connect a data warehouse and build a first workbook; no credit card needed. Trial length and limits are not stated on the page.
- View license: Custom quote. For report consumers: view workbooks, use predefined controls, comment, use Sigma Assistant; sees aggregated underlying data only.
- Act license: Custom quote. Adds form submission, input table editing, actions, full underlying-data access, scheduled exports and alerts.
- Analyze license: Custom quote. Adds ad hoc analysis, the AI formula assistant and full explore.
- Build license: Custom quote. Adds creating and sharing workbooks, apps and workflows, data modeling, SQL and Python, and administration.
Sigma's pages list no prices; the license tiers above come from its help docs and the trial details from its trial page. A third-party article (Reported) says buyers get custom quotes and cites a Vendr median of about $60,500 a year, but Sigma does not confirm this. Billing is by subscription term in U.S. dollars per the Main Service Agreement. Confirm on the live pricing page or with Sigma sales.
Details checked October 2026 against the vendor's own pages. Prices and limits change, so confirm before you buy. Official pricing page ↗
