What is Luminance?
A cloud contract-intelligence platform that the vendor describes as covering contract negotiation (Negotiate), a contract repository (Discover) and workflows from intake to signature (Automate). The vendor says it is a web application hosted on AWS and accessed through Chrome, with Microsoft Word and Outlook integrations.
Who it's for
Sold to companies and organizations; the vendor's pages name Legal, Procurement, Finance, Sales, Executive, Compliance and HR teams, and a 2023 release describes a self-serve feature for non-legal staff. It is a software product, not a legal service, and the vendor's pages do not describe individual or small-firm self-signup.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The vendor lists three product areas: Negotiate (precedent and playbook-driven suggestions), Discover (surfaces risk, obligations and commercial opportunities across a contract portfolio) and Automate (workflows from intake to signature).
- The Negotiate page says it can generate markups directly in Microsoft Word and lists DocuSign, LexisNexis, Outlook and Microsoft Word as integrations.
- The vendor says business teams can progress routine contracts from approved templates with role-based permissions, and non-standard terms are routed back to Legal.
- The vendor says it holds an independently certified ISO 27001 information security management system, undergoes regular SOC 2 Type II examinations and uses independent penetration testing.
- The security measures page says all customer data is encrypted at rest and in transit, each customer gets an isolated instance, and the customer can choose an AWS data center region (subject to availability), with SSO configurable on request.
- The terms say the customer retains ownership of Customer Data, and that confidentiality obligations last the longer of five years or as long as the information stays confidential.
Limitations
- No public pricing: the vendor's pages direct visitors to request a demo, and a third-party comparison says Luminance does not publish prices and sells per-customer enterprise agreements. Costs are reported to depend on users, modules, contract volume and implementation.
- On training: the Master Hosted Terms (dated August 4, 2026) let Luminance use Customer Data to improve the product and keep 'Learnings' (pseudonymised, excluding personal data and confidential information, customer not identifiable) on a perpetual basis; customer-specific 'Private Learning' belongs to the customer. Other vendor pages read do not say whether customer data trains models.
- The terms say optional generative AI features (for example Ask Lumi) send inputs to third-party providers such as OpenAI, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, and that redaction may not always be possible. An appendix of the same terms also says customer data is not sent to an external model provider, so the document disagrees with itself; confirm with the vendor.
- The terms say no refunds except in stated cases (uncured warranty failure, certain IP infringement terminations, court-ordered termination). They also say document uploads are capped at 200% of the subscription allowances each year, and data is deleted after a retention period of at least 30 days following termination.
- Supported languages and jurisdictions are not stated on the product pages read; a 2019 press release says the platform is used in over 80 languages. Outputs are described by the vendor as aids for legal review, and nothing read says they replace a lawyer.
Plans and pricing
- Request a demo: Contact sales. The vendor's pages route prospects to a demo. No plan names, seat prices or usage tiers are published on the pages read.
- Enterprise subscription: Custom. Fees are set per customer in an Order Form. The terms refer to subscription allowances, a minimum term and a hosting region chosen in the order form.
- Free trial: $0 (Reported). A City AM interview (undated in the text read) reports a two-week free trial; the official pages read do not list a trial, so confirm availability with the vendor.
No price is published on the vendor's site pages read; the Request a Demo route is the only listed way to get a quote. Third-party sites (for example Bind) also say Luminance does not publish pricing and give no figure. Confirm on the live pricing page or with sales.
Details checked October 2026 against the vendor's own pages. Prices and limits change, so confirm before you buy. Official pricing page ↗
