What is Clio?

Clio is cloud legal practice management software (Clio Manage) for time tracking, billing, documents, client communication and e-signatures, with AI features sold as Manage AI (formerly Clio Duo), Clio Draft and Clio Work. Clio Work is a separate AI workspace for cited legal research, document analysis and drafting, powered by Vincent AI from vLex, which Clio agreed to acquire; it runs in the browser and from a mobile app.

Who it's for

The vendor aims Clio Manage at law firms, from firms moving off spreadsheets (EasyStart) to growing firms that want automation and reporting (Advanced) and intake and marketing tools (Expand). A 2026 trade report says Clio Work is now sold separately to solo, small and mid-sized firms; it supports legal professionals and does not replace professional judgment.

Strengths

Clio's help center says Clio Work connects a firm's matters to the Clio Library for cited research, document analysis and case strategy, and lists tasks such as Ask a Research Question, Build an Argument, Compare Jurisdictions, Analyze a Contract and Create a Timeline.
Clio's help center says the Clio Library holds over one billion sources from more than 100 countries, including statutes, regulations, case law, journals, practice notes, jury verdicts and forms; Clio's acquisition post cites over 110 countries.
The US pricing page lists four Clio Manage tiers (EasyStart, Essentials, Advanced, Expand) with e-signature limits of 3, 15, unlimited and unlimited, and lists unlimited storage, encrypted backups and two-factor authentication on every plan (per the Clio Work pricing page).
Clio's help center says Manage AI can schedule events from documents, automate bills, analyze documents and answer questions about matters, and that every Clio Duo feature remains available inside it.
The Clio Work pricing page says Clio holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications, states it meets GDPR requirements, encrypts data in transit and at rest, and allows data export in open formats.
The US pricing page lists a 7-day free trial with no credit card required, 24/5 support by phone, email or chat, and a 99.9% uptime guarantee.

Limitations

The US pricing page shows only 'Starting at $49/user' without naming the plan or the billing basis; Essentials and Advanced show 'Get Pricing' and Expand shows 'Book a Demo', so full US prices could not be read.
The US pricing page lists Manage AI as a paid add-on priced by sales quote and shows its features as not included in the plan columns, while Clio's acquisition post footnote says Manage AI is included in most Clio Manage plans and the Clio Work and Clio Draft pages say AI is built into every plan. Confirm what your plan includes.
Clio Work has no published price on the Clio Work pricing page ('Book a demo'); a trade report (LawNext) says it cost $199 per user per month at its October 2025 launch and was limited to Clio Manage subscribers, which could not be confirmed on a Clio page (Reported).
Clio's help center says Context Memory in Clio Work is being released in phases and may not be enabled for every firm, and that all outputs need final review by a qualified legal professional.
The Manage AI help page says queries may be processed on servers outside your home jurisdiction while resulting data stays stored in your region, and that your firm is responsible for local AI and data-residency rules; that page does not say whether customer data trains models.
Clio says cancellation is allowed at any time but the current term, monthly or annual, is not refundable; payment processing fees are separate (cards 2.95%, AMEX 3.75%, eCheck and ACH 1%, Affirm Pay Later 4.95%).

The $49 figure appears on the US page without a plan name; Capterra also lists $49 per user per month (Reported).
Essentials: Get Pricing. Adds custom fields, document and matter templates, client portal, 300+ app integrations, text-to-pay and accounting integrations; 15 e-signatures, 2 custom roles, 5 saved report views.
Advanced: Get Pricing. Adds matter stages, automated workflows, custom and scheduled reports, matter budgets, multi-currency and split billing, SAML single sign-on, live onboarding and priority support; unlimited e-signatures, roles and saved views.
Expand: Book a Demo. Everything in Advanced plus Clio Grow for client intake, automated client touchpoints and marketing reporting.
Clio Work (AI workspace): Book a demo. Cited legal research, document analysis and drafting with Vincent AI. Sold with Clio Manage or, per a 2026 trade report, on its own. Launch price of $199 per user per month in October 2025 is Reported, not confirmed on a Clio page.

The Canada pricing page lists prices in CAD per user per month (for example EasyStart $69 / $79) without labeling which is annual; US monthly and annual prices could not be read. Clio says it holds firm data privately and does not use it to train AI models (Clio Work pricing page); the Manage AI help page does not address training. Confirm on the live pricing page.
