What is Everlaw?
Everlaw is a cloud-based platform for eDiscovery, litigation and investigations, where teams host, process, review and produce case evidence. The vendor also sells an AI suite (Deep Dive, Review Assistant, Coding Suggestions, Writing Assistant) and runs on the web, hosted on AWS.
Who it's for
The vendor's site names law firms, corporations and in-house teams, state and local government, federal agencies, and nonprofits and pro bono teams through its Everlaw for Good program. It is sold through sales contact rather than self-service sign-up, and the vendor's terms say Everlaw is not a law firm and does not give legal advice.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Everlaw says its per-GB hosting rate includes unlimited user licenses, processing and imaging, unlimited productions, legal holds, redaction tools, predictive coding, Storybuilder, audio and video transcription, onboarding, training and support.
- The pricing page lists single-document AI actions (Q&A, summaries, topic analysis, custom extractions, coding suggestions, translation) and Deep Dive for Transcripts as included at no extra cost.
- Everlaw says it supports 194 file types and lists native handling of Slack, Teams and WhatsApp data, plus cloud connectors such as Microsoft, Google, Slack and Zoom.
- The security page lists SOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3, FedRAMP Moderate, GovRAMP Moderate, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, 27017 and 27018, Cyber Essentials Plus, AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.2 or higher in transit, and SSO and multi-factor authentication options.
- The AI governance page says customer data is not used to train or fine-tune language models, that its model providers commit to zero data retention, and that customers can delete case materials, including AI inputs and outputs, at any time.
- Everlaw for Good lists a free tier up to a monthly cap, discounted rates for larger matters and free AI credits for qualifying nonprofits, pro bono teams, journalists, educators and CJA panel attorneys.
Limitations
- No dollar prices are published for any plan; the pricing page says cost depends on data managed and usage, and rates must be obtained from Everlaw sales.
- AI features that run in batch or across a corpus (Deep Dive natural-language querying, batch summaries, topic analysis, extractions, coding suggestions and translation) need purchased credits, and unused committed credits expire at the end of the term.
- The terms say subscriptions renew automatically unless the order form says otherwise, require 30 days' written notice of non-renewal, and say the customer pays for the full purchased subscription; the terms contain no refund provision, and the pricing pages list no free trial.
- Hosting is billed on each month's peak data size, and deleting documents does not lower the current month's bill. The billing FAQ lists limited-scope project management and non-standard data at $140 an hour.
- The vendor's AI pages differ on detail: the framework page does not name its model providers, while the accuracy and confidentiality page names OpenAI. The terms say Everlaw will not train or fine-tune a generative AI model 'for general use' with input or output, and also grant a license to use case materials to improve the service. None of the pages read address privilege, and the vendor says customers remain responsible for checking AI output.
