What is Klap?
A web app that turns long videos, podcasts and webinars into short vertical clips with automatic clip selection, reframing and captions. You upload a file or paste a YouTube link, edit in a built-in editor and can publish or schedule to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn; a separate REST API and an MCP server are also listed.
Who it's for
Creators and marketing teams that repurpose speech-based video such as podcasts, interviews, webinars and tutorials into short clips; Klap says its algorithm relies heavily on speech detection. Developers can use the separate usage-based API or embed the editor in their own product.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Klap's homepage says you can create your first video free with no credit card, and lists editing and transcription in 52 languages.
- Klap lists AI clip selection, content-aware auto reframing with layouts such as split screen, animated captions, a clip scoring feature, brand fonts, colors and logos, and direct publishing and scheduling to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Klap lists a public REST API (api.klap.app/v2, Bearer API key), an MCP server, and Zapier, Make and n8n integrations; the API page lists word-level transcripts, captions in over 100 languages and Managed Users and Embeds for embedding the editor.
- Klap's own comparison page says a full editor with media import and frame-accurate caption editing is included in all plans and that exports go up to 4K.
- The terms of service say a refund can be requested before the end of the first month, and up to 3 consecutive months of non-use can be refunded; yearly plans get a full refund only in the first month, then 1/12 of the annual price per unused month for up to 3 months.
- The privacy policy lists deletion of videos, publication history and social tokens on account deletion, handled within 30 days, with backups kept up to 30 days.
Limitations
- There is no ongoing free plan: the vendor describes one free video for trial. Klap's own blog gives conflicting free details (one video in one section, 10 clips from 1 video with a watermark in another), and a third-party review reports free output without a watermark and a 3-day card-required trial shown to some visitors.
- Klap's own pages disagree on plans and prices: the homepage and tools FAQ say Klap Pro is $29 a month; one Klap comparison page lists Starter at $14 a month billed yearly and Pro at $29; a Klap pricing article lists Basic $29, Pro $79 and Pro+ $189 monthly; an older Klap blog lists Pro $29 and Business $79. Confirm on the live pricing page.
- Limits are described differently depending on the source: Klap's pricing article lists monthly clip caps (100, 300 and 1,000), maximum source length (45 minutes, 2 hours, 3 hours) and monthly upload counts, while a third-party review reports the live page now meters input minutes (300, 900 and 2,700) instead. Reported, not confirmed.
- Annual billing is the cheaper basis (about half the monthly price per month); paying monthly costs $29, $79 or $189 for the three plans, as reported. The API is billed separately by usage at $0.32 per generated short, $0.44 per video input and $0.48 per export, and consumer plan allowances do not cover it as reported.
- The privacy policy does not say customer content is used to train AI models, but it says data is used to develop new services and features, that contractors may review video frames to improve reframing, and lists AI processors such as OpenAI and Google (Gemini); data is stored in the United States and the controller is registered in France.
