What is Better Analyst?
Better Analyst (formerly Formula Bot) is an AI data analysis app where you upload files or connect data sources and ask questions in chat. It returns charts, dashboards, tables exportable to Excel or Google Sheets, and the code behind each answer, and runs as a web app with a Slack integration.
Who it's for
The vendor's pages describe it for people who want analysis without writing code, plus analysts who want to check the generated code and teams that work in Slack. Business adds SSO, per-member data access and white-label embeds for larger teams; custom plans exist for volume pricing and annual contracts.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The vendor says each request shows the generated code, with Python (pandas), SQL and R (ggplot2) examples on its product page.
- The FAQ lists integrations including Google Analytics (GA4), Google Search Console, Power BI, Tableau, Airtable, Google Sheets, BigQuery, Snowflake, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Supabase and SQL Server, plus Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint.
- The FAQ lists Excel, CSV, Google Sheets, PDF, DOCX, PPTX, TXT, and MP3, WAV, MP4, MOV and WebM files as supported inputs.
- The product page describes a Slack integration: mention the bot in a channel or DM it, and answers, charts, tables and files appear in the thread.
- The vendor says data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest and is stored on US cloud servers; its Terms say it does not use your content to train its own models.
- The pricing page lists Data Flows (scheduled refreshes) on every paid plan: 1 weekly on Starter, 5 daily on Max and 20 hourly on Business.
Limitations
- The FAQ lists the free plan as 10 messages and 25 AI Actions a month with a 5MB file limit; the pricing page says only "Free plan, no credit card" and gives no limits.
- Usage is metered in AI Actions: a formula costs 1, Table Extract PDF costs 5 per file and AI Extract PDF costs 10 per selected page, before optional add-ons. Message allowances reset each billing period and do not roll over.
- Max ($40) and Business ($80) are priced per user, and the pricing page lists 5,000 and 15,000 AI Actions per user. Starter ($20) caps chat at 250 messages a month, 2 connected sources and 200MB files.
- The vendor's pages disagree on message caps: the pricing page lists unlimited chat for Max and Business, while the FAQ plan list gives only AI Action caps and mentions unlimited messages for Max in a separate answer. An older vendor page reported by earlier research gave a $18 to $149 range that does not match the current $20 to $80.
- Refunds are accepted only within 30 calendar days of the most recent payment and only if the account used fewer than 50 billable messages, requests or AI Actions since that payment; the Terms say the vendor may change fees with notice.
Plans and pricing
- Free: $0. 10 messages and 25 AI Actions a month, 5MB files (per the FAQ); no credit card required.
- Starter: $20 a month. 250 messages, 2,500 AI Actions, 2 connected sources, 2 automated dashboards, files up to 200MB, 1 weekly Data Flow (Google Sheets only); first month listed at $10.
- Max: $40 per user a month. 5,000 AI Actions per user, 10 connected sources, 10 automated dashboards, files up to 500MB, 5 daily Data Flows, shared workspace; first month listed at $20 per user.
- Business: $80 per user a month. 15,000 AI Actions per user, 50 connected sources, 20 automated dashboards, files up to 1GB, 20 hourly Data Flows, SSO, white-label embeds, free dashboard Viewers, dedicated support; first month listed at $40 per user.
- Custom: Contact vendor. The pricing page links to custom plans for volume pricing, custom connectors or annual contracts; no figures are given.
Monthly prices and plan limits were read from the vendor's pricing view and FAQ, in US dollars; the pricing view shows a Monthly/Annually toggle but no annual figures could be read, so annual prices are unknown (billing docs say annual is discounted). The free plan limits come only from the FAQ. Confirm on the live pricing page.
