What is Tabnine?
Tabnine is an AI coding assistant that generates and explains code, answers questions in chat, and runs task agents such as code review, testing, documentation and code fix. Its docs list plugins for VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Eclipse and Visual Studio, and it can be deployed as SaaS, in a VPC, on-premises or air-gapped.
Who it's for
Tabnine's pages describe it for professional developers and engineering teams, especially organizations that want self-hosted or air-gapped deployment, zero code retention and IP indemnification. Its published prices are per user and billed annually, so it is not aimed at casual one-person monthly use.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Tabnine's docs list full support for VS Code (1.93.1 to 1.129.0), JetBrains IDEs (2023.3 to 2026.2), Eclipse (4.28 to 4.40) and Visual Studio 2022 and 2026 (Windows only).
- Tabnine says it keeps zero data retention for code and usage metrics, and that its proprietary models are never trained on customer code.
- Tabnine lists SaaS, VPC, on-premises and fully air-gapped deployment, plus a choice of LLM providers or private model endpoints.
- Tabnine's pages list agents for code review, testing, documentation and code fix, and Enterprise adds codebase-aware chat, fine-tuned models, SSO, and admin and usage analytics.
- Reported: both paid plans include zero code retention and all deployment options, and the Agentic Platform ($59) adds autonomous agents, a CLI, an unlimited-connection context engine and MCP tool support over Code Assistant ($39).
- Tabnine lists IP indemnification for Enterprise and says generated code is checked against publicly viewable repositories.
Limitations
- Reported: only annual per-user pricing is published for Code Assistant and Agentic Platform. A third-party guide says monthly billing is not offered, and another says month-to-month pricing needs a sales contact.
- Tabnine's own pages disagree on free access: the AI code assistant page offers Tabnine free in a supported IDE without terms, and the Cline comparison page lists a 14-day Dev trial, while price trackers report the official pricing page has no free tier and the older free and Dev plans were removed.
- Reported: the seat price excludes GPU infrastructure for on-premises or air-gapped deployments, and LLM usage plus a handling fee may apply when Tabnine provides model access.
- IP indemnification is listed for Enterprise only and is subject to terms and conditions. Enterprise pricing is not published.
- Tabnine was reported acquired by Tricentis in July 2026. The press release does not say whether the standalone coding assistant, its pricing or its plans will continue unchanged.
Plans and pricing
- Free / trial: Unclear. Vendor pages mention Tabnine free in an IDE and a 14-day Dev trial; trackers report no free tier. Not confirmed.
- Code Assistant: $39 a user a month billed annually. Reported. Code completion, in-IDE chat, IP protection, zero code retention, SaaS, VPC, on-premises or air-gapped deployment.
- Agentic Platform: $59 a user a month billed annually. Reported. Adds autonomous agents, a CLI, an unlimited-connection context engine and MCP tool support.
- Enterprise: Contact sales. Vendor lists self-hosted deployment, SSO, analytics and IP indemnification. Reported to add custom model training and compliance certifications. No price published.
Tabnine's official pricing page could not be read (robots disallowed or blocked), so $39 and $59 come from two third-party pricing guides (one updated Mar 2026, one stating prices as of Jul 2026 and updated Oct 10, 2026) and are marked Reported. Prices are in US dollars, per user, billed annually. Vendor pages conflict on a free option. Confirm on the live pricing page.
