What is Smartcat?
Smartcat is a web platform for translating and creating content with AI agents it calls coworkers, plus translation memory, a human linguist Marketplace and an Agent Builder. It handles documents, websites, video subtitles and dubbing, images, PDFs and software strings, and connects to tools such as Google Drive, Figma, WordPress and Contentful.
Who it's for
Smartcat describes plans for teams and enterprises that localize content at volume, from a $1,200 a year Adapt plan up to custom Autonomous contracts. It does not publish a self-serve monthly or free-forever plan, so it is not aimed at occasional individual users.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Smartcat says it supports 280+ languages across translation and content creation and handles 80+ file formats.
- Smartcat lists unlimited users on every current plan, with 1 workspace on Adapt and Accelerate, 2 on Anticipate and 7 on Autonomous.
- Smartcat says its Smartwords are not used for 100%+ translation memory matches, repetitions (including cross-file), auto-copy-from-source or number conversion; fuzzy matches of 50-99% do use them.
- Smartcat lists integrations by tier: Google Drive, Google Sheets, OneDrive and a Chrome extension on Adapt, Figma and Canva added on Accelerate, and GitHub, Jira, Contentful and Salesforce Marketing Cloud among those added on Anticipate. It says it connects to 40+ tools.
- Smartcat says its Marketplace gives access to 500K+ vetted human experts; it is an add-on on Adapt and included from Accelerate up.
- Smartcat says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant, encrypts data with TLS in transit and 256-bit AES at rest, and does not use customer content to train or improve AI models.
Limitations
- Smartcat says there is no free-forever plan; the only free option is a 15-day trial. Its pricing page also labels Adapt "Free to start", though Adapt is listed at $1,200 a year billed annually.
- Smartwords are an annual allowance: 100K (Adapt), 1M (Accelerate), 2M (Anticipate), 6M (Autonomous). Smartcat says more can be bought mid-contract; the price of top-ups is not published on the pages read. A balance shared across workspaces is listed only for Anticipate and Autonomous.
- API access is listed from Anticipate up, and SSO, 2FA and a security questionnaire are listed from Anticipate up. A second workspace requires Anticipate or higher, and extra workspaces are sold at an add-on price that is not published.
- Smartcat's pages disagree on the trial: the pricing FAQ says the 15-day trial includes API access, while an older help-center page read earlier said the trial has no API access. The pricing page gives no word limit for the trial.
- The pricing page shows Accelerate, Anticipate and Autonomous as custom, while the help-center plan overview says "From $24,000/year" and "From $60,000/year" for Accelerate and Anticipate. Support hours and response times also differ by plan: Adapt has no Level 1 update interval and a 4-hour Level 1 response, against 2 hours on Anticipate and Autonomous.
Plans and pricing
- Free trial: $0. 15 days per the pricing FAQ, which says it includes API access. No word limit stated on the page; earlier help pages said 15,000 Smartwords and no credit card. Not a permanent free plan.
- Adapt: From $1,200 a year, billed annually. 100K Smartwords a year, unlimited users, 1 workspace, standard SLA support. Marketplace is an add-on. API not listed.
- Accelerate: Custom on the pricing page; help center says from $24,000 a year. 1M Smartwords a year, unlimited users, 1 workspace, priority SLA, Marketplace included, Figma and Canva integrations.
- Anticipate: Custom on the pricing page; help center says from $60,000 a year. 2M Smartwords a year, unlimited users, 2 workspaces, API, SSO and 2FA, Level 1 support 24x7. Smartwords shared across workspaces.
- Autonomous: Custom. 6M Smartwords a year, unlimited users, 7 workspaces, custom integrations, parallel and branching workflows, enterprise governance.
Prices and allowances were read from Smartcat's pricing page and its help-center plan overview, billed annually in US dollars. The two pages disagree on whether Accelerate and Anticipate are custom or have a starting price. An independent tracker (PricingSaaS, Reported) says Smartcat moved to these four plans in July 2026.
