What is Polycam?
Polycam is a 3D capture app and web tool that turns phone photos, video and LiDAR scans into 3D models, floor plans and measurements. It runs on iOS, Android and web browsers, per Polycam's Basic plan FAQ.
Who it's for
Polycam describes Basic as for individual creators and freelancers rather than teams, and Business as the choice for shared access, floor plans and team workflows. Enterprise adds admin controls, a content management API and paid add-ons for larger organizations.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Polycam lists three capture modes on its Basic page: Space Mode (with automatic fixture and furniture detection), Object Mode and aerial capture.
- The pricing page lists unlimited object, space, AI captures and Gaussian splats on Basic, with per-capture caps of 300 images and 5 minutes of video.
- Business adds 2D and 3D floor plans, automated measurements, a shared team library and virtual walkthroughs. Polycam states floor plan accuracy of about 0.5 inch on standard interior captures, and says complex spaces or devices can widen that.
- Polycam's Business page lists 3D model exports (GLTF, OBJ, FBX, DAE, STL, USDZ) and point cloud and CAD exports (PLY, LAS, Geo-LAS, PTS, XYZ, DXF), plus TransformEngine access for BIM files.
- Polycam says captures are stored with industry-standard encryption and are not shared unless you publish or share them. Its help center says training on capture data is off by default on Business and Enterprise.
- Business is listed with 2,000 images and 30 minutes of video per capture, SSO and SOC-2 Type 1 compliance, and priority email support.
Limitations
- The Free plan lists 3 AI captures, 10 photogrammetry captures, 150 images per capture and 3-minute videos, GLTF export only, and a watermark on video exports and embeds.
- Basic embeds also carry a watermark, and Polycam lists 3 scenes with 5 layers each on Basic. Floor plans, automated measurements, team library and point cloud exports are listed under Business.
- Polycam's help center says capture data is used to train its AI models by default on Free and Pro accounts, with an opt-out toggle in Account settings. It names Business and Enterprise as off by default; it does not name Basic.
- Refunds: Polycam's refund policy says all subscription payments are non-refundable, and the pricing FAQ says there are no prorated refunds. The 7-day trial applies only to Basic or Business annual plans, and monthly plans have no trial.
- Polycam's pages disagree in places: the Basic and Business pages say unlimited captures while listing per-capture caps; the pricing page lists PLY, LAS, PTS and XYZ in its FAQ export list for all paid plans but shows point cloud exports under Business; the Enterprise card has a trial button while its FAQ says no trial; and the Business page lists SSO and SOC-2 Type 1 while the pricing page lists SSO and SOC-2 as Enterprise add-ons.
