What is Plask?
Plask is a browser-based tool that extracts human motion from uploaded video and applies it to 3D characters, with an animation editor for keyframes, layering and retargeting. The site also lists a separate motion capture API and an animation outsourcing service for game developers.
Who it's for
It suits animators, game developers and small studios who want motion capture from ordinary video instead of a capture suit. The docs say only human figures are recognized, so it is not aimed at animal or other non-human motion.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- The pricing page lists full body and hand capture, multi-person capture, FBX/GLB/BVH export, video rendering, scene sharing and realtime collaboration on all plans, including Free.
- Capture is metered in time rather than credits on the pricing page: Free gets 15 seconds a day, Standard 10 minutes a month and Pro 1 hour a month, with 1 GB, 3 GB and 10 GB of storage.
- The docs list MP4 or WebM video from 3 seconds to 5 minutes and up to 100 MB, with 720p recommended and horizontal video preferred.
- The docs say multiple people can be captured at once (fewer than 10 recommended, up to 1,800 frames and under 1 minute, with a stationary camera).
- The documentation index lists an animation editor with a timeline, keyframes, layering, IK controllers, and manual and automatic retargeting.
- A separate Plask API page lists pay-as-you-go motion capture from MP4, MOV or WEBM video that returns JSON joint data; prices are not shown and require contacting sales.
Limitations
- Capture time is capped on every plan, and Free is limited to 15 seconds a day according to the pricing page. The docs say only a single full human figure in frame works well; loose clothing and cut-off limbs can reduce accuracy.
- The Terms of Service say only users on a Commercial plan get a broad commercial license to use User Videos, and other users are limited to personal, non-commercial use. The pricing page does not list a Commercial plan or mention commercial use.
- The Terms of Service give Plask a perpetual license to User Content and permission to process User IP through machine learning and use it in advertising, and say User Content is not confidential.
- The Terms of Service say payments are generally non-refundable, paid plans bill monthly, and subscriptions renew automatically at the rate then in effect.
- The Terms of Service use 30 seconds a day as the free example and describe monthly credits, while the pricing page lists 15 seconds a day and no credits.
Plans and pricing
- Free: $0. 15 seconds of capture a day, 1 GB storage; all listed features except faster processing.
- Standard: $18 a month billed annually. 10 minutes of capture a month, 3 GB storage, faster processing. Monthly-billing price not shown in the page text.
- Pro: $50 a month billed annually. 1 hour of capture a month, 10 GB storage, faster processing, pre-release features and organization benefits. Monthly-billing price not shown in the page text.
- API (pay as you go): Not listed. Single-person and multi-person video motion capture billed monthly; contact sales for prices.
Prices were read from the official pricing page, which has an Annual/Monthly billing toggle; the monthly-billing prices for Standard and Pro were not readable. The Terms of Service differ from the pricing page on free limits, credits, billing period and the Commercial plan, and the pricing page says nothing on commercial use or refunds.
