What is Greptile?

Greptile is an AI code review tool that reviews pull requests using an index of the whole repository, flags issues, and learns team standards from past PR comments. It runs as a hosted service or self-hosted, and connects to GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket.

Who it's for

The vendor aims it at software engineering teams, including enterprises it names in defense, healthcare and financial services, and offers free use to qualified open source projects. Pricing is by credit across the organization rather than by seat, so it suits teams that want to pay per review.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • Greptile says it builds a graph index of the repository (files, functions, dependencies) and uses parallel agents to assess a change's impact beyond the diff.
  • The vendor lists custom rules written in plain English, plus learning from a team's PR comments, on its homepage and in the Pro plan.
  • Greptile lists support for GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Cursor Origin, with Enterprise options for GitHub Enterprise Server, GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency, GitLab Self-Managed, Bitbucket Data Center, Gitea and Perforce (via P4 Code Review).
  • The vendor lists a Knowledge Base MCP, a Claude Code plugin, a CLI, and a fix-in-IDE hand-off to Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or Devin; Pro lists Jira, Linear and Notion integrations.
  • Greptile says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant, with the report, bridge letter and latest penetration test available on request from its Trust Center, and says it has zero data retention agreements with LLM providers that process customer data.
  • Self-hosting is available on your own infrastructure or VPC via Docker Compose or Helm on Kubernetes, with customers supplying their own LLM provider; the pricing page lists self-hosting under Enterprise.

Limitations

  • Pricing is metered in credits: a Base review is 1 credit, Plus is 3 and Apex is 10, so deeper reviews cost more. The pricing page does not say whether credits roll over or expire.
  • The free Starter plan covers 1 active developer and 50 credits a month; the pages read do not say what happens when the credits run out.
  • Self-hosting, SSO and SAML, role-based access control, data residency and the extra code hosts (GitLab Self-Managed, Bitbucket Data Center, Gitea, Perforce) are listed as Enterprise features with custom pricing.
  • Greptile's security page says it may use aggregated, de-identified customer data to train and improve its models; admins can opt out in Organization Settings under Data & Privacy. Self-hosted customers are not subject to this collection unless they configure it.
  • Reported: independent price trackers describe Pro as $30 per active developer a month with 50 included credits (as of a September 2026 launch of Plus and Apex tiers), but the official pricing page now shows $1 per credit with no seat fees and no included credits. The pages disagree.
  • Languages: Greptile lists full support for Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, Elixir, Java, C, C++, C#, Swift, PHP and Rust; its FAQ says other languages work with slightly lower response quality.

Plans and pricing

  • Starter: $0. 1 active developer, 50 credits a month, unlimited repositories.
  • Pro: $1 per credit, no seat fees. Unlimited developers and agents, credits shared across the organization. Includes learning and custom context, Knowledge Base MCP, cross-repo context, team analytics, and Jira, Linear and Notion integrations. Cancel anytime in account settings.
  • Enterprise: Custom. Everything in Pro plus self-hosting, SSO and SAML, role-based access control, data residency, extra code hosts, security reviews, dedicated Slack support and custom contract terms.

Prices were read from the official pricing page, which lists Starter, Pro and Enterprise; Enterprise pricing is not published. Pro is billed per credit used; the page does not state a currency symbol other than $. Third-party trackers report a $30 per developer seat model that the official page no longer shows. Confirm on the live pricing page. Discounts listed: free for qualified non-commercial open source projects, and 500 free credits a month for 6 months for pre-Series A startups under $2M revenue; no nonprofit program is listed.

Details checked October 2026 against the vendor's own pages. Prices and limits change, so confirm before you buy. Official pricing page ↗
