What is Drata?

Drata is a web-based compliance and trust management platform that collects evidence from a company's tools, runs automated control tests, and supports audits for frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and GDPR. It also offers a Trust Center, AI-assisted security questionnaire answers, third-party risk management and governance of AI agents.

Who it's for

Drata lists plans by company size and need, from Foundation (up to 50 full-time employees, one framework) to Enterprise, so it targets organizations preparing for or maintaining security and privacy certifications. Its pages do not describe it as a consumer or individual product, and it is sold through demo requests.

Pros & cons

Strengths

  • Drata says its Compliance Automation product centralizes controls and evidence, automates evidence collection across a customer's tools, and runs automated tests with a view of control health.
  • Drata says the platform has 30+ pre-mapped frameworks; its pages feature SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, GDPR, HIPAA and PCI DSS and also list DORA, FedRAMP and CMMC.
  • Drata says it integrates with hundreds of tools across 28 categories (for example AWS, Azure Blob Storage, BigQuery, Cloudflare, BambooHR, ADP Workforce Now, 1Password and Bitbucket); it does not state an exact count.
  • Drata lists AI features including policy-to-control mapping suggestions, AI-generated cloud tests for AWS, Azure and GCP, test failure explanations, vendor SOC 2 report summaries, and questionnaire answer drafting from Trust Center and Knowledge Base content.
  • Drata says its Drata MCP connects AI assistants (Claude, IDEs and orchestration agents) to a workspace to query policies, controls, tests and risks, using OAuth 2.1, SSO, audit logging and user-level permissions.
  • Drata says customers can turn off Drata AI at Settings, then AI Settings, and that AI outputs are designed to support human review, with the ability to approve, reject or correct them depending on the feature.

Limitations

  • Drata does not publish prices: the plans page shows no dollar amounts, and each plan's button leads to a demo request. The page does not mention a free plan or a free trial.
  • Foundation is limited to up to 50 FTEs and one pre-mapped framework (SOC 2, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials, HIPAA or GDPR); additional frameworks and user access review are add-ons, and any framework, custom connections and tests start at Advanced.
  • Several items are add-ons or reserved for higher tiers: Risk Management Pro, Compliance as Code Pro and user access review are included only in Enterprise; workspaces and custom frameworks are add-ons on Advanced and Enterprise; Agentic TPRM Assessment is an Enterprise add-on.
  • Trust Center and questionnaire limits vary by tier: Foundation lists up to 100 questionnaires and up to 100 approved domains, with more available as add-ons; Advanced and Enterprise list unlimited questionnaires. A help article says Trust Center Essential and Pro plans apply only to the Classic Drata experience, while the New Drata experience uses SafeBase.
  • On AI and data: Drata's Responsible AI page says it does not use Customer Data to train shared or general-purpose models by default, but may use it for tenant-specific models if a customer expressly authorizes it, and may use aggregated or deidentified data. A help article says Drata does not currently train or fine-tune AI models on customer data and logs edits or accepted suggestions; it names no model providers, retention period or data residency.
