What is Digits?
Digits is accounting software that calls itself an AI-native general ledger, combining AI bookkeeping, month-end close, bill pay, invoicing and financial reporting in one system. It runs as a web app with native iPhone and iPad apps, plus a developer API and an MCP server.
Who it's for
Digits says it is for business owners and startups who want to manage their own bookkeeping with AI support, and for accounting firms through its Digits for Firms program. One vendor comparison page says it is not suited to businesses that want to fully outsource bookkeeping or want a high-touch accountant relationship.
Pros & cons
Strengths
- Digits says its AI categorizes transactions around the clock, flags items for review and learns from corrections, and lists an Agentic Close workflow with automated accrual schedules.
- The homepage lists AI Bill Pay with approval and payment workflows, customer invoicing with payment collection, and an assistant called Ask Digits.
- Digits says it connects to 12,000+ financial institutions and lists unlimited banks, credit cards, expense accounts and payroll connections; the homepage shows logos for Ramp, American Express, Stripe, Mercury, Chase and Brex.
- Digits lists a Developer API and an MCP server, and its homepage announces that MCP now has write access protected by Locked Periods.
- Digits states its AI models were trained on over 170 million transactions, and offers a free 30-day trial for businesses.
- Reported (G2): the Pro tier adds Custom Reports, Custom Dashboards and Budget vs. Actuals, and Core adds Dimensional Accounting (department and location tracking) and Automated Schedules.
Limitations
- The official pricing page (digits.com/pricing) could not be fetched; all plan prices below are Reported from third-party listings (G2, Capterra, SoftwareSuggest) and may be out of date.
- Vendor pages disagree on the entry price: Digits' own comparison page says plans start at $100 per month, while G2, Capterra and SoftwareSuggest list Essentials at $65 per month.
- There is no free plan; Digits offers a free 30-day trial for businesses, and third-party pages do not state the billing basis beyond flat monthly rates.
- Several features are reported as tier-gated: Custom Reports, Custom Dashboards and Budget vs. Actuals on Pro only, and Dimensional Accounting and Automated Schedules from Core up.
- Digits' pages do not say whether customer content is used to train its models; its AI page says models are improved from customer feedback without explaining how, and links to a privacy policy.
