What is Asana?

Asana is a work management platform for planning projects, tasks and goals, with AI features called AI Teammates, Asana Dash and AI Studio (a no-code builder for AI workflows). It runs as a web app, and the vendor lists AI connectors and MCP so tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can work with Asana data.

Who it's for

Asana says its AI Teammates are built for teams such as marketing, IT, operations and development, and its AI Studio is aimed at teams that want no-code intake, routing and approval automations without IT help. The free Personal plan is for 2 users; larger teams and admins who need SSO, data residency or compliance add-ons are pointed to Enterprise.

Strengths

The pricing page lists a free Personal plan for 2 users with unlimited tasks and projects, list, board and calendar views, 100MB per-file storage and 100+ free integrations.
The vendor says AI Teammates are 30+ prebuilt agents (for example Content Writer, Campaign Analyst, IT Request Agent) that can also be built from scratch with a defined role, guidance and skills, and that they work within the permissions of the projects they can see.
The AI Teammates page says Teammates can search, read and write across 10+ connected apps, naming Gmail, Slack, HubSpot and Databricks, with Google Drive, Outlook, Teams, Figma and GitHub shown on individual Teammate cards.
The AI Studio page lists triggers such as a new task or form submission and plain-language instructions that classify, route, validate, summarize, search the web and translate; AI Studio is listed as available on Starter, Advanced, Enterprise and Enterprise+.
The pricing page lists monthly AI Studio credits per billing account (Starter 50K, Advanced 75K, Enterprise and Enterprise+ 200K) and says more can be bought. The admin guide says admins get warnings at 80% and 100% of the credit limit and can monitor usage by builder, workflow and model.
The vendor's AI page and terms say Asana and its AI partners do not use customer data to train the models behind Asana AI, and that AI partners must delete customer data after each query.

Limitations

AI Teammates and Asana Dash are metered in AI requests. The pricing page (Reported, column mapping partly inferred) lists 5 requests per user a month with an account cap of 50 on Starter and 250 on Advanced, Enterprise and Enterprise+; extra requests are $0.50 each in prepaid packs or $0.60 each pay-as-you-go. The terms say Asana decides how many requests an interaction counts as, and failed or timed-out interactions do not count.
AI Studio is metered in credits that depend on the model chosen, input and output volume and how often a rule runs. The terms say unused credits expire at the end of the subscription term, are non-refundable and cannot carry over, and that Smart Workflows stop when credits run out unless more are bought or on-demand charges are authorized.
The vendor's pages describe AI Studio tiers differently: the pricing page lists per-plan credits only, while the help center describes Basic (included, capped), Plus (100,000 credits a month, bought in-product), Pro (admin-approved builders, credits reset quarterly) and, in an older article, Max (unlimited). Plus was announced from $1,620 a year with up to 1M credits (Reported, August 2025 forum post).
AI Teammates status is unclear across pages: a September 2025 forum post called it a beta for AI Studio Pro customers, a March 2026 update says it is live and to contact Sales, and the pricing page now lists AI requests on every paid plan. The AI Teammates page does not say which plans include it. Confirm on the live pricing page.
Free Personal is limited to 2 users and the pricing page lists no AI allowance for it. Some features (Goals, portfolios, SSO, data residency and others) sit on Advanced or Enterprise, and Timesheets and Budgets, Compliance management and Permissions management are separate add-ons.

Starter: $10.99 per user a month billed annually, or $13.49 monthly. AI Assists, 5 AI requests per user a month (account cap 50, Reported), 50K AI Studio credits a month per billing account.
Advanced: $24.99 per user a month billed annually, or $30.49 monthly. Adds Goals, portfolios and more; 5 AI requests per user a month (account cap 250, Reported), 75K AI Studio credits a month per billing account.
Enterprise: Custom (contact sales). SSO and data-residency type controls; 250 AI requests account cap (Reported) and 200K AI Studio credits a month per billing account.
Enterprise+: Custom (not listed). Add-on tier to Enterprise; the pricing page lists 200K AI Studio credits and a 250 AI request cap (Reported).
AI Studio Plus (add-on): From $1,620 a year (Reported). Bought in the admin console on a monthly or annual cycle matching the base plan; credit packs up to 1M; stacks on the free Basic credits. Read from an August 2025 forum post.
