Weglot vs Lokalise

Weglot and Lokalise side by side: what each one is, what it costs to start, and whether you can try it free. Everything below comes from the vendors' own sites and other public sources, not from hands-on testing.

Neither tool is ranked above the other here. These are research-based profiles, not hands-on tests. Starting price is the lowest listed paid plan per month (annual-billing equivalent where the vendor lists one), as shown on the vendor's own site when we last checked. Prices change, so confirm on the vendor's site. How this site works.

Key differences

Weglot lists a free tier and Lokalise does not.

Weglot has the lower starting price ($12.50/mo against $149/mo for Lokalise). The cheapest plan rarely has the same limits or features, so compare plans before choosing on price.

Both are in our Translation & Localization category.

About each tool

Weglot

Website translation service with AI and machine translation, 110+ languages and a free plan under 2,000 words. Starter is €12.50 a month billed annually (€15 monthly).

Who it is for

It suits site owners and agencies that want to add translated versions of an existing website without rebuilding it. The free plan is meant for projects under 2,000 words with one translated language, and Enterprise is for organizations that need SSO, a custom contract and dedicated support.

Strengths

  • Weglot says it supports 110+ languages and dialects, and that it uses DeepL, Google and Microsoft machine translation plus its own AI model built on OpenAI and Gemini models.
  • The AI translation page lists glossary rules, formal or informal tone for supported language pairs, brand guidelines for the AI model, and manual edits (direct or in a visual editor on a live preview) that carry over to future translations.
  • The compatibility page lists Drupal, Ghost, Joomla, LearnWorlds, Magento, Shopify, Squarespace, Tilda, Webflow, Weebly, Wix and WordPress, and the pricing page lists a 14-day free trial on every paid plan.
  • Weglot lists multilingual SEO features: automatic hreflang, metadata translation and localized URLs. The pricing page lists translated URLs from the Pro plan.
  • Weglot says its servers are in the European Union, that it is GDPR compliant, and that it holds SOC 2 Type 2.
  • Plans include team members and projects: Free to Business list 1 project and 5 team members, Pro lists 3 projects and 10 members, Advanced 10 and 25, Extended 20 and 50 (read from the pricing table, Reported).

Limitations

  • Each plan has a cap on total unique translated words across all languages: Free 2,000, Starter 10,000, Business 50,000, Pro 200,000, Advanced 1,000,000, Extended 5,000,000. Weglot says this is a fixed limit that does not renew.
  • If you exceed the word limit, Weglot emails you; with auto-upgrade on, the account moves to the next plan, otherwise translations are discontinued until you upgrade or delete translations.
  • Language counts are also capped per plan: Free and Starter 1, Business 3, Pro 5, Advanced 10, Extended 20. The pricing page ties professional translators to Business and up, statistics and translated URLs to Pro, and export/import and custom languages to Advanced.
  • Professional translation is a separate per-word charge from partner TextMaster. The pricing page says it starts at 0.13 euros per word, while the professional translation documentation page shows 0.15 euros per word next to French, so the rate differs between Weglot pages.
  • Standard plans are charged in euros and shown without VAT (VAT is added for EU customers without a valid VAT number); USD figures are estimates based on the EUR/USD rate on your subscription date.
  • Weglot's pages do not say whether customer content is used to train AI models, and the GDPR help article says some subprocessors are outside the EU, including in the United States.

Lokalise

Localization management platform for translating software and apps. Explorer is $149 a month billed monthly; annual price not shown.

Who it is for

Lokalise's developer and plan pages target product, engineering and localization teams that manage translations across several projects, repositories and design tools. Its plans scale advanced seats, integrations, quotas and governance features from Explorer to Enterprise.

Strengths

  • Lokalise's help center says billing is based on processed words, not the number of keys, that translation keys are unlimited, and that hosted words and translator and reviewer seats are unlimited on paid plans.
  • Lokalise lists Git sync with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure Repos, a REST API, a Go-based CLI, webhooks, and OTA SDKs for iOS, Android and Flutter.
  • Lokalise lists integrations with Figma, Jira, Contentful, Webflow, WordPress, Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Storage, and says it supports 300+ languages and file formats such as .strings, .xliff, .json, .po, .resx and .xlsx.
  • Lokalise's developer page lists an MCP server that gives Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP-compatible tools access to a project, plus custom AI profiles that use translation memory and glossaries, and AI Scoring against MQM criteria.
  • Lokalise's security page lists a SOC 2 Type II assessment, ISO 27001 and 27017 certification, GDPR compliance with a named Data Protection Officer, and customer data stored on AWS infrastructure in EU regions.
  • Lokalise's help center says every plan includes API access (capped at 6 requests per second), and that paid plans include unlimited OTA requests with data transfer limited by plan (10 GB a month on Explorer up to 500 GB on Enterprise).

Limitations

  • Each plan has fixed yearly quotas (processed words, Pro AI words) plus monthly OTA data; Lokalise says the affected feature stops working when a limit is exceeded, unused quota does not roll over, and some metrics can be topped up to a stated maximum.
  • Features are tiered: glossary, translation memory and in-context editors start at Growth; branching, versioning, user groups and two-factor authentication start at Advanced; SSO, audit logs, personalized AI models and a dedicated CSM are Enterprise. Growth does not include SSO.
  • Lokalise's pages disagree on Growth: 300,000 processed words and 50,000 Pro AI words a year on the Growth and new-plans pages, versus 225,000 and 40,000 on the available-plans page. Lokalise's developer page also says Git sync with branching is on all plans, while the plans article reserves branching for Advanced and up.
  • Lokalise's AI statement says customer content may be used to improve its services unless the customer opts out through the AI Addendum, and that its internal AI Scoring model can be trained on customer content with consent; it says third-party LLM providers may not train on it. The statement is internally inconsistent on whether this is opt-out or opt-in.
