About each tool
M

Malwarebytes
Consumer antivirus and scam protection; the vendor says AI is core to its products. A free cleanup tool and 14-day trial exist; Premium prices are not published on readable pages.
Who it is for
Individuals and families who want antivirus and scam checking on PCs, Macs, phones and tablets. The vendor also sells separate multi-device tiers on its pricing pages and a Teams offering for small businesses.
Strengths
- The vendor lists Premium Security features in four groups: scam safety (Scam Guard, Trusted Advisor, Digital Footprint scanner, Text Protection on Android and iOS, Call Protection on iOS), threat protection (web, malware and PUP, ransomware), privacy (Privacy VPN, webcam and remote desktop monitoring) and system tools.
- The vendor's AI Hub says its 'AI-fueled defense paired with human expertise' is core to Premium Security, Mobile Security and Browser Guard, and describes Scam Guard as an AI chat companion that also works as @Malwarebytes inside ChatGPT.
- A Malwarebytes help article says Scam Guard removes personal details from submitted items, extracts links, phone numbers and emails and checks them against Malwarebytes' protection databases; chat messages and screenshots are stored for up to two hours and then deleted.
- The vendor lists a free download, a 14-day Premium Security trial, and a 60-day money-back guarantee (the for-home page says on annual plans).
- The vendor says Premium real-time protection uses behavioral analysis, and lists free tools such as Scam Guard and Browser Guard on its home page.
Limitations
- The vendor describes the free version as an on-demand cleanup tool without real-time protection; real-time, ransomware and exploit protection are in paid Premium.
- Identity Theft Protection and Personal Data Remover are billed annually, and the vendor says personal data removal and the $1M/$2M insurance plans are US-specific; insurance does not cover incidents before purchase and enrollment.
- The privacy policy lists collection of detections, system details, usage logs and exploit-block data, says retention periods vary and are not fixed, and says it does not sell data. It does not mention AI or model training, and the Scam Guard article read does not say whether chats train models.
B

Bitdefender Scamio
Free Bitdefender chatbot that checks suspicious messages, links, QR codes and images; Bitdefender says it uses generative AI. No paid tier listed; account sign-in required.
Who it is for
Everyday consumers who want a quick second opinion on a suspicious text, email, link or ad without installing software. Bitdefender says no download or install is needed and that you sign in or create a Bitdefender account once.
Strengths
- Bitdefender lists text (including pasted emails), links, QR codes and images or screenshots as inputs, and also lets you describe the situation in plain language.
- The product page lists the web app (scamio.bitdefender.com/chat), WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Discord, with no download or install.
- Bitdefender says Scamio combines its threat detection with generative AI; an independent write-up (Help Net Security) says it uses natural language processing and returns a verdict plus suggested steps such as deleting the message or blocking the sender.
- Bitdefender says Scamio checks input against predefined rules and its database of known scams and phishing attempts, and it asks you to rate the result.
- Bitdefender's privacy policy (section 7.8, read in the Spanish version) says Scamio runs on Azure OpenAI Service, that your data is not made available to OpenAI, and that no personal data was used to train it or is planned to be used to train or improve the AI.
- The product page shows no paid tier and no message limits, and it describes Scamio as 100% free.
Limitations
- Bitdefender describes Scamio as an AI chatbot in an early access phase and says it offers more accurate advice over time; its pages publish no accuracy figures, and no usage caps or supported chat languages are listed.
- A Bitdefender account sign-in is required. The privacy policy says data used for automated processing is kept for up to two months from when the message is sent, and that anonymized information may be used to improve Scamio.
- The privacy policy says that if you use Scamio inside Messenger, WhatsApp or Telegram, that third party could access what you share in the conversation, and it points to scamio.bitdefender.com as the way to avoid a third-party chat.
