About each tool

Colossyan

AI avatar video and course platform with SCORM export and interactive quizzes. A free Starter plan exists; Professional is $59 a month billed annually.

Who it is for

Colossyan positions itself for training teams, offering course creation, SCORM export, translation and team seats. Larger organizations can ask for Enterprise features such as SAML SSO, analytics and EU or US data residency.

Strengths

  • Colossyan lists 300+ stock avatars, 700+ stock voices and 120+ languages on its pricing table, including the free Starter plan (its homepage and a self-serve section say 100+ languages).
  • Colossyan says it imports PDF, PowerPoint, Word, script, URL and existing video, and lists interactive video with action buttons, in-video quizzes and jump-to-scene branching.
  • Colossyan says videos export as SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004 (4th edition), with bookmarking so learners can resume. Professional lists 5 video and 5 course SCORM exports a month; Enterprise lists unlimited.
  • Professional lists watermark removal, unlimited MP4 downloads, 30 NEO and 10 NEO2 minutes a month, 5 cloned voices, 20 custom avatars and 20 auto-translations a month.
  • Colossyan's security page says it holds SOC 2 Type II, complies with GDPR, encrypts data with TLS 1.3 in transit and AES-256 at rest, and hosts on AWS in EU and US regions.
  • The security page says customer documents, scripts and videos are never used to train its AI models, and that AI vendors are contractually barred from training on Colossyan input.

Limitations

  • Starter lists 0 SCORM exports, 1 editor seat, 15 auto-translations and 10 interactive videos a month; Professional lists 1080p maximum, while 4K, unlimited minutes and SCORM, analytics, custom templates, SSO and data residency are listed for Enterprise.
  • Professional includes 1 to 3 editor seats and extra members are $30 a month each; a custom studio avatar is a $1,000 a year add-on per the FAQ, although the Enterprise column also lists one included. Annual plans are paid upfront and unused months are not refunded.
  • Per the refund policy, a full refund requires a claim within 14 days of purchase, under 10 minutes of generated video and a non-Enterprise plan; Enterprise customers do not get refunds. EU and UK consumers have separate withdrawal terms.
  • Standard terms (last updated 19 December 2024) give Colossyan a license to use uploaded materials to improve its services and develop new ones, while the security page says content is not used for model training. Enterprise terms (updated 9 March 2026) rule out AI training, with a narrow exception for a customer's custom avatar model.

Synthesia

AI video platform that turns scripts into videos with AI avatars and voices in 140+ languages. Free Basic plan (watermarked); Starter is $29 a month.

Who it is for

The vendor positions it for business video such as training, learning content and communications, from individuals on self-serve plans to larger organizations on Enterprise. Enterprise adds shared workspaces, SSO, brand kits and SCORM export.

Strengths

  • The pricing page lists 9 AI avatars on Basic, 125+ on Starter, 180+ on Pro and 240+ stock avatars on Enterprise
  • The pricing page lists 140+ languages and voices
  • Personal avatars (from a photo or webcam video) start on Starter: 3 on Starter, 5 on Pro, and unlimited on Enterprise subject to reasonable consumption and compute
  • Synthesia's security page says it undergoes periodic ISO 42001, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II audits, with no audit dates given
  • The integrations page lists 58 integrations, including PowerPoint, Slack, Microsoft Teams, YouTube, Vimeo, Moodle, Articulate 360 and HubSpot

Limitations

  • The free Basic plan has 500 credits a month, 10 minutes of video or dubbing, 1 editor and 9 avatars, and videos carry a Synthesia watermark
  • Starter has 1,250 credits a month, which the vendor estimates at about 12 minutes of video, and 1 editor and 3 guests. Pro has 6,000 credits, about 60 minutes, and 1 editor and 5 guests
  • Video costs 100 credits a minute in the vendor's calculator, and lip-sync dubbing uses twice the credits
