Capacities vs Mem
Capacities and Mem side by side: what each one is, what it costs to start, and whether you can try it free. Everything below comes from the vendors' own sites and other public sources, not from hands-on testing.
Neither tool is ranked above the other here. These are research-based profiles, not hands-on tests. Starting price is the lowest listed paid plan per month (annual-billing equivalent where the vendor lists one), as shown on the vendor's own site when we last checked. Prices change, so confirm on the vendor's site.

About each tool
C

Capacities
Note-taking app that stores notes as typed objects, with an AI assistant on paid plans. Free Basic plan; Pro is $9.99 a month with annual billing ($11.99 monthly).
Strengths
- The vendor lists the free Basic plan with unlimited spaces, objects, blocks and custom object types, plus cross-device sync, offline support, full-text search and import/export.
- The product page lists integrations including WhatsApp, Telegram and email capture, Readwise, Kindle, Web Highlights, Raycast, and task push to Todoist, Things, TickTick, Apple Reminders, Google Tasks and Microsoft To Do.
- The AI assistant docs list AI chats with approval-gated edits, auto-tagging, property auto-fill, image analysis, image generation and query generation, with models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, xAI, Mistral, Deepseek and Moonshot.
- The facts page says user data is stored in the EU and lists export to Markdown, CSV, Word, HTML and LaTeX; the pricing page lists AI connectors that let ChatGPT, Claude, Le Chat and Cursor read from and add to a chosen space.
Limitations
- Basic includes 5 GB of media uploads in total, then 100 MB per month, and no AI assistant, Public API or other Pro features.
- Pro and Believer include a monthly AI budget that the docs describe as sized for trying AI or very light use; it resets each cycle and does not roll over, heavier models use it faster, and AI features pause when it runs out.
- Paid fees are generally non-refundable under the terms (EU residents have a 14-day withdrawal right unless they consent to immediate performance), and website or desktop subscriptions must be canceled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
M

Mem
AI notes app with search, tasks, voice capture and a chat agent over your notes. Free plan has monthly caps; paid plans start at $9 a month (monthly billing only).
Who it is for
It suits individuals who want notes, tasks and voice capture in one place with AI search and Q&A over them. The vendor's higher Pro tiers add custom routines and connections to Gmail, Slack and Todoist for heavier use.
Strengths
- Mem lists Deep Search and templates on every plan, including Free.
- The App Store listing says Mem detects tasks and projects from notes, keeps voice notes with their transcripts, and works offline on iPhone, syncing when reconnected.
- The App Store listing names Gmail, Slack and Todoist as connections that can supply context; Mem says connections require Pro or higher.
- Mem says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant, encrypts content in transit and at rest, and runs on Google Cloud.
- Mem's privacy policy says it does not use your personal information or notes to train generalized AI or ML models, and does not use integration queries to train AI models.
- Mem's pricing page lists one-click export of notes and collections as Markdown files.
Limitations
- Usage is capped each month on every plan: Free gets 25 messages to Mem, 25 new notes, 15 open tasks/projects and 3 hours of Voice Mode; Plus gets 50, 50, 25 and 10 hours.
- Custom routines, routine executions and connections are not included on Free or Plus; Pro includes 1 routine, 50 executions and 1 connection, and more cost $49 to $199 a month.
- Mem's security page says content is decrypted for AI processing by third-party vendors it describes as trusted and SOC 2 compliant, so notes are not end-to-end encrypted.
- The App Store listing shows an in-app purchase named Pro at $12.00 and three Proactive entries ($29, $59, $99) that do not appear on the pricing page, so check which plans are current.
